Official: X-Files returning to Fox for 6 episodes

The truth is right here, and it’s amazing: After 13 years off the air, The X-Files is officially returning to Fox as a limited series.

Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back on board, along with creator Chris Carter.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

The only part of this huge news you might not like: There are only six episodes planned.

i am so stupid excited about this i'm rewatching it on netflix and am about five episodes into season 9 but have no recollection of most of what happened. it's not that i don't like dogget or reyes, but it's not mulder and scully. on the bright side, it's like seeing it again for the first time.

...if they'll address one of the loose threads that the show left hanging: Is Scully immortal?

I know that sounds weird but the show did put this out there in TWO episodes. The first one was "Clyde Bruckner's Final Repose" about a man, Clyde Bruckner, who could predict HOW people were going to die. In one scene, Scully couldn't resist asking him about her own death. He told her that she doesn't die. In another episode whose title I've forgotten, Mulder and Scully investigate a case involving a man who can tell WHEN people are about to die. This man apparently "cheated" death by looking away from it when it came to claim him while he was a patient in a hospital. He said that a nurse at the hospital looked upon Death and it took her instead. The man has been unable to die ever since. Later in the episode, both he and Scully are shot. He is unharmed but Scully is close to death. The man sees Death enter the room and tells Scully to look away. She obeys and the man looks full on at Death and finally dies. Scully makes a full and miraculous recovery.

I like the way it highlights the slow-burning love affair that was always just below the surface.
