NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)it would take some re-working. Rollins has that intensity needed for Negan, but Negan was also so scary because he was huge & intimidating as well. Rollins is kind of a small guy, so maybe they could make him like a Joe Pesci from Goodfellas scary.

Remember when Aidan told them they had lost four people a month earlier? Their system was already failing. And they had a need to go out to get better building supplies, which meant that they would eventually face conflict.
I'm trying to give the WD crew the benefit of the doubt because I can't imagine rooting for them if they go too dark.

a boy and a red balloon. Here's a description from The Criterion Collection:
In this deceptively simple, nearly wordless tale, a young boy discovers a stray balloon, which seems to have a mind of its own, on the streets of Paris. The two become inseparable, yet the worlds harsh realities finally interfere.

(56,829 posts)you'd might say it was just the opposite - Lori, Beth, Andrea, Carol, Maggie and Hershel's wife were all happy homemakers on the farm, while Rick, Shane, Daryl, etc went out and put themselves in danger. So, pretty good development.

(22,772 posts)It was as if the writers knew *of* women, but didn't even bother to find out anything at all about how women think, speak or relate to other people.
Most notable -
My god - Lori and Maggie have NO idea how birth control works - let alone the day after pill.
All of the wimmens were all about cooking and cleaning.
The one woman who isn't expected to do laundry all day, Andrea, shot a gun into a crowd of people. I'm one of the gun grabbing commies here and even *I* know not to do that.
Even Carol was written as pitiful - while we now know her character arc, her character was, as written, so poorly constructed. Mercifully Melissa McBride is a mighty fine actress and worked wonders with what she was given to work with.
My friends and I joked that they should re-name the show "Where's Carl!??!" because when Lori wasn't busy trying to kill her convalescing son, yanno, out of mercy(!), she had no idea where he was most of the time - during a zombie apocalypse. She spent her time running around hollering "Where's CARL?!!?"
The women were written as one dimentional - mercifully this has changed and the writing has steadfastly improved as has the character development- but it made me so angry how they were written in season 2. It was so insulting.
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)I'd want any or all of 'em on my side during a zombie apocalypse. But if one looks at Carol's transformation, or Michone's back story, or what Sasha has been through, the evolution of Maggie and even Beth too, it all makes sense.

(5,604 posts)Thats obviously the "trouble" that Daryl runs into for the final episode. They sound like the most sadistic and nasty bunch yet.
I find it hard to believe that Rick and his group would take any shit from Deanna and her community, if Rick and his capo's stay true to character, they'll just make it a Ricktatorship again.

Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)And I think his lust interest is clouding his judgement, for example, he should nnot have mentioned killing Pete to Deanna, he's forgotten the old Rick's diplomacy. Fun to see Michone clobber him though, good thing they have two cops.

NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)yes, she has adapted quickly, but we haven't gotten "inside" her head yet like we have with Rick, Sasha, Michonne, Glenn and a few others. She's just had those memorable moments with Sam.
But, it might not bode well for Carol and Daryl as both are appearing on Talking Dead after the finale... hopefully, not to discuss their characters just dying.
Iris
(15,679 posts)That may be a good sign. It's possible the appearance of Carol and Daryl on Talking Dead is an attempt at a red herring.

Iris
(15,679 posts)And I just don't believe they'll get rid of Darryl any time soon, especially not when he and Rick are kind of on the outs.
Baitball Blogger
(46,776 posts)She has evolved into a primo post-apocalyptic anti-hero. Part den mother, part Rambo. It would be a terrible mistake to take her out of the series now. Though, if they do remove her (which would be odd since I heard she signed a contract for Season 6) then it leaves an opportunity for someone to create a story based on a character just like her. Doesn't even have to be a zombie based genre.

(1,893 posts)Just wondering if the Alexandria situation goes on for any significant amount of time in the comics. Of course I realize they can and probably will diverge from the source material.
Also, the Rick/Pete/Jessie storyline -- is that in the comics? I'm hoping it will end with the finale next week. I think a Rick and Jessie relationship would be a mistake and bog down the show. Just my humble opinion.
I kinda hope the whole Alexandria thing turns out to be brief. It's a little too safe for this show, and the denizens of Alexandria are a little too bland.
Really looking forward to the return of Morgan!
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)In the comics they meet Aaron and his boyfriend around issue 65 - so, the events of seasons 1 through 5 1/2 take place in issues 1 through 64 or so.
The last I checked, they were still in Alexandria around issue 122 or 123, so almost as much time in Alexandria as outside of it. Of course, they go out to places like Hilltop and elsewhere during this time. Alexandria is not as safe as it seems, though.
yes, the comics have the Rick/Pete/Jessie storyline - complete with the two of them going through the window and Michonne knocking out a ranting Rick... I won't say too much more than that, though.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)I'll post it in spoiler text after this - no guarantees, since the comic is often different from the show. In the comics, Pete goes after Rick with a gun and misses, shooting and killing Douglas' wife Regina by mistake. After which, Douglas tells Rick to kill Pete. Of course, that would mean he kills Deanna's husband Reg instead.
I get the impression from the previews that it may go down a bit differently.
CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Interesting... although not the way I wanted things to go. Although, as you say, they could choose to go in a different direction.
Good to hear you say Alexandria is not as safe as it seems. Hoping all hell breaks loose in the finale!
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)There are a lot of differences from the comics, though. There is no Enid and no Daryl. Carol has been dead for a while and Sophia is still alive and has essentially been adopted by Glenn and Maggie. So, take any predictions made by me with a grain of salt.
CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)Never got around to the second one though. I know they've made many changes, although they seem mostly to do with the fate of certain characters and the inclusion/exclusion of others. I was just trying to get an idea if Alexandria was going to be a long-term thing. Hopefully that location will become more interesting and engaging as things progress.
I do wonder how a lot of these decisions get made. If sometimes actors want to move on to other projects (I got that feeling with the actor who played Tyrese) or if they ever decide to allow a character to survive based on strong popularity. I know they want the viewers to have the feeling that no one is safe, but at some point, if you kill enough beloved characters, viewers will get fed up. I have the same issue with Game of Thrones, which is the only other show I watch faithfully.
I'm still mad about losing T-Dog, Dale and Beth. Still totally okay with the death of Lori.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)if I recall, ends with Lori being shot in the back & falling & crushing baby Judith... so, I always tell people that the show isn't as dark as the comics. (also, looking at what happened with Tyreese and his daughter and her boyfriend...)
