Did you ever see my "Ode to Unrec"?

If you haven't, I'll have to dig it up.

I had a bit of fun with that Hannah Bell thread, and one DU'er in particular - famous for being, how shall I say...?.......perpetually underserved by humanity?......was the most vocal.

The appreciation thread got locked and she started another thread complaining about that fact, accusing the members who unrecc'd the thread as being "bullies" and somehow members of a secret society of unrecc'ers.

So...I couln't resist and started a thread calling for a meeting of the secret society!

Well...that got locked too. So I put up another thread just saying that I liked DU because drama was fun and funny at times.

The above mentioned famous DU'er took me to task on my own thread and I let her have it.

My post got scrubbed but I made my point.

I've got it all here under this stack of virtual papers, somewhere!

The person I am speaking of was perpetually homeless, or so she would have us all beleive.

Apparently several DU'ers reached out to her in an attempt to help, only to be met with vitriol, for some strange reason. It seems to me she had some serious mental health issues but never seemed to avail herself of any kind of free assistance. I tried to be kind to her when I interacted with her, but her participation in the thread(s) I am speaking of just pushed me over the edge. It was clear she wasn't playing with a full deck, so to speak.

Anyway.....I'm sorry she had/has difficulties, but I have little sympathy for people who prefer to complain about their lot in life instead of accepting or seeking readily available assistance.

Mon Nov 10, 2014, 09:50 PM
Nov 2014

I offered her up my family's hunting cabin out near Bastrop... about 40 miles east of Austin. No one was using it and I felt terrible about her having to spend another cold winter in Colorado.

It's a one room cabin with a small kitchen and bathroom on 2 acres. I told her that she could stay there but would need to cover her own expenses as far as gas and electricity. She agreed. She even had her sponsor call me about the place. I told her I could help her for a few months until she got settled and found a job. I agreed to buy her groceries and cover the electricity until she could get settled.

She had me take pictures and send them to her. Things seemed to be going okay until she started bitching about not having wi-fi or carpet and also not having central air and heat. ( there are window units) I explained to her that this was a temporary place until she got re-settled into a new place and that my cabin wasn't perfect but it was better than living in her car on the streets!

After all of that she trashed me and stalked me VIA PM and DU. I even sent her a 75.00 gift certificate on the advice of her sponsor at Wal Mart and she bitched about that she would NEVER go to wally world. I finally gave up and put her on ignore. I have no idea what ever happened to her.

My "Ode to Unrec:

Oh unrec, you message board feature sublime,
Have you simply appeared ahead of your time?
Why is it you gather such silly attention?
When all you want is a little affection.

At times your usage makes some come unglued
when your result is simply nonsense subdued.
Even though your application is most voluntary
the contempt for you is oddly quite scary

It's as if in your absence, a thread that's not hot
still warranted a greatest page-ward swat.
Some will insist the jury's still out
But the job you've done is nothing but stout.

Eliminating crap and gratuitous clutter.
Place self serving bullshit in a well deserved gutter.
"I WON'T POST! I WON'T POST! I WON'T POST NO MORE!
IT'S YOU UNRECCERS MAKING LIFE SUCH A CHORE!"

Suggesting all threads of obscure import
deserve to be making the greatest page sort
is like saying a toddlers crude block construction
earns inclusion in Architecture Today's production

Oh unrec, oh unrec, you feature supreme
make it easy to see if a thread holds esteem
by a majority of our fine message board
instead of just five that are easily scored.

Can you imagine how dead DU would be if that thing was still around?

That was the worst idea ever had on here.

having a shit ton of DUers on Nuclear Ignore and it was hilarious.

Was it the ability to ignore people and they couldn't post in your threads and the lists of who was ignored was visible? Something like that I think.

It was the ability to not only ignore but also block people from the threads you started, but with an added twist. The mods really used to enforce the "don't carry over arguments from other threads" policy. So, you would have certain DUers post something to start a flame war, ban anyone that posted in opposition to them, then alert on any thread started in rebuttal (because it was carrying over an argument). It got insane in GD very quickly.

I remember one poster (I think it was the one that started the douchebag thread) had an ignore list hundreds of DUers long.

Considering how much the "All Serious All the Time" denizens of GD absolutely hate us Loungarians, I'd say it's about time we shook them up with some absurd hair-on-fire topic

I tried looking for the link but I couldn't find it.

Mission, Vision & Values

The world is changing all around us. To continue to thrive as a business over the next ten years and beyond, we must look ahead, understand the trends and forces that will shape our business in the future and move swiftly to prepare for what's to come. We must get ready for tomorrow today. We must steal all the fucking water from the Moon. That's what our 2020 Vision is all about. It creates a long-term destination for our business and provides us with a "Roadmap" for winning together with our bottler partners.

Our Mission

Our Roadmap starts with our mission, which is enduring. It declares our purpose as a company and serves as the standard against which we weigh our actions and decisions.

* To refresh the world...
* To inspire moments of optimism and happiness...
* To steal all the fucking water from the Moon...
* To create value and make a difference.

Our Vision
Our vision serves as the framework for our Roadmap and guides every aspect of our business by describing what we need to accomplish in order to continue achieving sustainable, quality growth.

* People: Be a great place to work where people are inspired to be the best they can be.
* Portfolio: Bring to the world a portfolio of quality beverage brands that anticipate and satisfy people's desires and needs.
* Moon: Steal all fucking water from.
* Partners: Nurture a winning network of customers and suppliers, together we create mutual, enduring value.
* Planet: Be a responsible citizen that makes a difference by helping build and support sustainable communities.
* Profit: Maximize long-term return to shareowners while being mindful of our overall responsibilities.
* Productivity: Be a highly effective, lean and fast-moving organization.

Our Winning Culture
Our Winning Culture defines the attitudes and behaviors that will be required of us to make our 2020 Vision a reality.

Live Our Values
Our values serve as a compass for our actions and describe how we behave in the world.

* Leadership: The courage to shape a better future
* Collaboration: Leverage collective genius
* Integrity: Be real
* Accountability: If it is to be, it's up to me
* Theft: The Moon water is there. Fuckin' let's fly our starship up there and fuckin' steal it.
* Passion: Committed in heart and mind
* Diversity: As inclusive as our brands
* Quality: What we do, we do well

Focus on the Market

* Focus on needs of our consumers, customers and franchise partners
* Get out into the market and listen, observe and learn
* Possess a world view
* Focus on execution in the marketplace every day
* Figure out how much we're going to make with all that fuckin' Moon water
* Be insatiably curious

Work Smart

* Act with urgency
* Remain responsive to change
* Have the courage to change course when needed
* Land the starship close to where the fuckin' Moon water is, so we don't to carry it very far
* Remain constructively discontent
* Work efficiently

Act Like Owners

* Be accountable for our actions and inactions
* Steward system assets and focus on building value
* Treat that fuckin' Moon water like it's ours, which, fuck it, it IS
* Reward our people for taking risks and finding better ways to solve problems
* Learn from our outcomes -- what worked and what didn’t

Be the Brand

* Inspire creativity, Passion, Optimism and Fun....And STEAL MOON WATER.
