Mine is Mussel Shoals.

(29,582 posts)Or New Oysters.
And an oyster isn't a god damn mollusk.
KamaAina
(78,249 posts)and there is no such city as Mussel Shoals, either. The music mecca in Alabama is Muscle Shoals.
taterguy
(29,582 posts)Mussels, that's what.
Some dumbass spelled it wrong on the map.
Seriously.
No one would name a shoal for muscles.

(29,582 posts)Muscle Shoals is nowhere near the Gulf Coast.
It's on the north end of Alabama.

Well, I did. The music is great but the weather sucks big time.

(20,176 posts)Granted, it's the least crazy southern state...but it's still a state in America's religiously-insane quadrant.
(Kidding. I love...well, part of your state. The Triangle (RaleighDurhamChapel Hill CSA) is one of my favorite places...much of the rest of NC is as discomfiting as Western VA (like Bristol, Lynchburg, Roanoke)...not WV...or SC.)
taterguy
(29,582 posts)Especially the scenic parts.
The Outer Banks? Can't swing a stick there without hitting an evangelist.
What happens in Linville Gorge stays in Linville Gorge because no one ever makes it out of there alive.
But spend as much time in Raleigh as you want, since there's nothing particularly scenic there.

(20,176 posts)Also, I hate the shoreline. Pretty much everywhere it smells like seawater and decaying aquatic life. I've never understood people that wanted to go to the beach...give me high-rises and inner-cities any day.
taterguy
(29,582 posts)I don't get that you don't understand the desire to visit the Outer Banks, one of the most beautiful places you can ever experience, except for all the crazy people.

(109 posts)Lynyrd Skynyrd reference it in their song, Sweet Home Alabama.
So I looked it up!
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Home_Alabama
One verse of the song includes the line "Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers/And they've been known to pick a song or two." This refers to the town of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, a popular location for recording popular music because of pthe "sound" crafted by local recording studios and back-up musicians. "The Swampers" referred to in the lyrics are the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.
