The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI hate it when people urinate in public....but I think I mellowed
I haven't posted for awhile because I've been working. I drive for 2 ride sharing companies, taking people to sporting events, concerts, to restaurants and bars and most important driving them home after they've been drinking. I keep in my car kleenex, candy and antiseptic wipes for my passengers.
Well on the week ends I find myself in a 16 block area of bars and restaurants. I have been able to get a handicapped parking spot in a public parking lot while I wait for ride requests. Well yesterday (Friday) I found my space available, parked it facing a group of shrubbery. Well I watched as a man went up to the hedger, unzipped his pants and proceeded to piss. When he was done, he saw me in the car and began apologizing, he said he would have pissed in his pants. I beckoned to him to come to the car, as he approached I reached down for an antiseptic wipe, gave it to him and said "wipe your hands."

(1,092 posts)That was the funniest line I've seen in ages! Truly!
And good question!
I can't stop laughing, LOL.
Welcome to DU.
I guess I miss how peeing in private is funny.

I do see how peeing is necessary...and sometimes in not so private. I think in Germany , if you need to pee while driving the autobahn and such.... you can do so legally by leaving car and going away some from road, and pee away from traffic.
it just seemed the right time to add my two cents

(34,094 posts)plus, unless you know what you're doing you run the chance of getting your pants wet when you squat (like i did when i tried it when i was 14!)
apparently men don't have to plan ahead like most women seem to have to in this regard (or at least the way i have to plan ahead in this regard)

(29,322 posts)when a man (obviously drunk) suddenly turned around, whipped it out, and started pissing as I was coming up. I avoided it but it was probably the last thing I wanted to see.
I've been there though, one time south of downtown approaching Broadway & McDonald which is an old industrial area w/ nothing really around as far as public restrooms and no nearby alleys at the time I had no choice but to use a bush. No traffic or people around at the time (who in their right mind would go to the area except for free food or to go through it get somewhere else).

(22,000 posts)But here in Korea I've seen it a number of times (in broad daylight and where people can see them). Now I understand if your on the road and nothings around and you have to go pee behind the bushes, I'm guilty of that. I'm smart enough to wash my hands.
1st time-At a bus stop in Daegu (2004) and a man whips it out at a bus stop and does his business.
2nd time-At a subway station in Seoul (2005). The guy uses a column in the subway station to do his business. This time I went up to the person and chewed him out (in English too).
3rd time-Just recently (2014) about a block from where I work in a suburb of Seoul. A boy is standing outside a building and just decides to pee right then and there. No parent in sight.
I'm sure there are other times, but I've probably repressed them in my memory as it repulses me as well.
I've heard stories of foreigners witness parents in Korea take their kids pants off and hold them over a garbage can and let them do their business.

(10,409 posts)Here in Seattle there is a shortage of accessible public restrooms, so lots of people (men and women) pee outdoors..in alleys, behind bushes, in stairwells. Nature trumps civility. Until enough accessible public toilets and urinals are provide people will use the great outdoors...

(16,334 posts)My sister and I were out of town in a pretty touristy area. However, all the stores claimed the restrooms were for customers only. We couldn't find any public bathrooms or porta potties. It was the most bizarre thing. We had to go into a coffee shop and buy something in order to use the bathroom. I don't blame the stores at all but when you are not familiar with the area, I don't understand why there aren't public facilities to use.
I know I know, now there's probably an app.
