You absolutely had a huge role in her success whether you want to take credit or not. You should be very proud of her and her accomplishments. I work at a university that has a school of nursing, and that's a difficult course of study. What an amazing daughter you raised.

If I may ask, where did she get her degree? I'm originally from the Cleveland area. Someone as accomplished as she is should be looking at University Hospitals or Cleveland Clinic.

My daughter would have graduated now too (in Nursing) but she had to take a semester off to work for her tuition.
I told my kids when they were young that they would probably need scholarships to attend college as I am poor. Both girls are in college. One son in the Coast Guard and one on the North Slope working construction.

A few years ago I started the LVN program at our local Adult School. I lasted 5 weeks. I don't know what I was thinking, an ex-musician going into science. Yeah, that'll work. Anyway, I know how difficult that major is and I greatly admire anyone who can get through an RN program. Again, congratulations to both of you.

Nursing is one of the most noblest professions out there. Your daughter will be saving lives and giving comfort to people during probably the most stressful point in their lives.

You did a terrific job as a parent. You raised a wonderful human being.

You done good there. Real good.

Hi all this is Megan, Ikonoklast's daughter. I wanted to thank everyone for the congratulations and the best wishes. I honestly did not know that my father would post a picture of me on the internet but yet he did.

It took me 2.5 years to get my degree and it was very stressful to the point all I did was study and be a hermit. Now is the hard part of passing my boards and finding a job. Other than that thank you to everyone that was really kind of you all! xoxo -Megan

Long time pediatric nurse practitioner here (almost 40 years). If pediatrics is what you love, go right into it. Some people will try to tell you that you need to do a year of med-surg first, which is baloney. Pediatrics is med-surg, just with younger patients. Do what you love.

Good luck on your boards.

our ADN program. Most folks knock ADN's, but my clinicals were in the Houston Med Center (cutting edge) and I managed to pass Nursing School working full time throughout and having my daughter mid way. Toughest thing I ever did. I look back at the picture and there were some people I did not even know that showed up I was so exhausted. Everyone was going on vacation or to Disney World. Folks asked me what I was planning to do and all I could say was sleep. And I did-12+ hours for 3 days while Mom watched the baby. On the 4th day, I went back to work. Never did find time to get those advanced degrees-life has a way of happening. Get you degree ASAP before it gets harder.

I am retiring in 7 more days. I have been a School Nurse (great schedule for working moms). I will work in a hospital (making more money than I ever did as a School Nurse) and then retire totally in a few more years. This was a second career for me but the one I stuck with. I was able to comfortably raise my daughter and be there for her special activities, something many single Moms have trouble doing. And I have a nice retirement built up for me too.

Nursing has been very good to me. Try not to burn out pace yourself, it is a marathon not a sprint.

coffee before the shift, alcohol after. That and some tight buds. I am retiring from school Nursing after 25 years. I am thinking of going back into hospital as I am not yet 60. I will work 5 more years then will hang up my cocs for good. I had my daughter while in the middle of Nursing school and divorced her dad a few years after. Nursing allowed me the best of both worlds. I was at my daughters functions when she needed me and was able to give her advantages I didn't have.

After nearly 60 years of sickeningly good health, I needed a good deal of medical help. Most of it was provided by nurses (I'm not knocking doctors - they're brilliant too).

So, give your daughter a hug from me...a grateful patient...not one of her's...but she'll have lots of patients like me.
