The beauty and the horror of a good curry is that you never really know. Back in Tanzania there was a phrase for when someone asked what's in the stew, "nyama ni nyama tu", "meat's just meat" (ponder that for a moment). Here I'm sticking with the Muslim stalls for now because I know halal food is largely within certain bounds.
Anyways, I'm going to go with this being goat ear, because the rest of the meat was goatish. My lips will hopefully stop feeling like they're on fire in a few hours.
Trivia: vindaloo is actually not a native Indian dish (the potatoes should have clued me in) but is modelled after the sort of hash that Portuguese sailors ate (we may know it as "lobscouse" or "lapskaus" .

(60,038 posts)I was there on business with my boss (who was very drunk) - told the server to "not make it wimpy like last night - when I say hot, I want it authentically hot" very rudely.
I think I was a victim of revenge on a rude customer....and it took days for the pain to subside!

(131,414 posts)A good friend, from Pakistan, has discovered a small Pakistani restaurant nearby, and I particularly enjoy their spinach and goat dish, served Tuesdays. Pretty good green beans and potatoes other days, too.

(131,414 posts)and friend has found several pretty good spots, 2 I can think of off hand are in strip-malls, in Cloverly and Gaithersburg.
Friend says: Indians and Pakistanis have learned that in order to conquer a continent, countries have first to send their cooks, so 200 years from now, WATCH OUT! And, he says, please do NOT see movie, Bombay Talkee! (I don't know why!)

(13,324 posts)so since I live with them, I usually end up eating the mild version of Indian cuisine (we cook at home). But even toned down, I still love a good chicken curry or lamb vindaloo.

(78,249 posts)in fact aloo means potato. They are often combined with peas (mutter).
They're not a "native" Irish or German dish, either.
