Ohio Man Orders Gun Safe Online, Finds $425,000 Worth Of Marijuana Inside

Ohio man ordered a gun safe online, which he naturally expected to be empty, but upon receiving the item he found inside $425,000 worth of tightly wrapped marijuana bricks.

The gun safe was manufactured by Champion Safe Co. in Noagles, Mexico, and was packaged by local inmates and shipped north.

Shelby County Sheriff John L. Lenhart said:

“Someplace between Mexico and the warehouse in Northern Ohio, the drugs got mixed up and put in the wrong safe and got delivered to the wrong person."

Lenhart also noted:

“I’ve been in law enforcement for 47 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s quite effective if you think about it: wrapped airtight to withstand high temperatures. Drug-sniffing dogs probably couldn’t smell it.”

Champion Safe Co. hired Conway Inc. to move about 25 to 30 gun safes to a warehouse in Ohio for local distribution. Police are hoping to question a Conway driver, but have not been able to find the driver yet. Lenhart added:

“Not only are we looking for him, but the bad guys are, too.”

The Drug Enforcement Agency's interest has been attracted by this case because evidence suggests that that is may not be the first time that sealed gun safes have been used to smuggle drugs.
