When I lived in Australia, we had to check under the toilet seats for spiders -- a favorite hiding space for poisonous red-back spiders (akin to our black widows). An Aussie nurse I met told me the majority of the spider bites they saw in the emergency room were on the male hangy-down parts.
We lived in the country, 85 miles south of Sydney. In our house, the two toilets were in little rooms off the back porch -- the house was built in 1846 and had no plumbing inside.
