As you can see, she's been a little roughed up...this is from last night...this morning she looked better, will try for better ones later...the good thing is she's not skinny, and has some energy. Keep good thoughts!

(34,136 posts)Are they from where you work? Don't you work at a shelter or some kind of rescue place?
Whatever, you DO GOOD WORK!
Adorable little kitty.

(21,484 posts)That's why we have ten cats. All started out as rescues or fosters . . .

(6,336 posts)Every black kitty I've met has been nothing but a total sweetheart. I was never owned by a black kitty, but I love them anyways.

(13,324 posts)If I wasn't on the opposite coast I might consider adopting her. Our one remaining cat is 16 with a bad thyroid, so our house might be a little empty in the near future...

(2,015 posts)Maybe it's not such a bad idea to think about getting another friend now. Then you won't feel like you are trying to replace your 16-year-old cat.

(13,324 posts)owner had to go into a nursing home. Funny thing, when Edna moved in she completely took over the house, even though poor Bob had been lord of the manor for 8+ years at that point. And against all expectation, she even wound up outliving the guy, since we, sadly, lost Bob recently at age 11 - we think he may have had a heart attack. But for now she's hanging in there, with her nightly thyroid medication.

(3,163 posts)Rescued at about age two. She's eight pounds, has survived heartworm and is now managing on one and a third kidneys. Calicos are supposed to be nasty, but nobody ever told her that, she is adorable.

(56,177 posts)I had heard that about calicos...they're pretty and they know it!

(298 posts)everything. Absolutely fearless.

(3,163 posts)I think something like 99.5% of calicos are female. Has to do with the color gene being on the X chromozone. Since males are XY and only have one X chromozone, they can only have one color, while females are XX and can have two colors. White is not a color, it represents hairs where the color gene is not "switched on."
A male calico is genetically an XXY male, which is an aberration.
