The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo I spent the day watching old movies on TCM, something I do sometimes.
I always wonder why women wore white gloves back then.
Smoking seems to be the what everyone did.
There were so many old movies made I don't think I will ever see all of them.
It is just a step back in time, to relax and see I a time before I was born.
A time before WW2 and all the changes the came.
Of course from watching old movies so many people never seem to have money problems.
Well back to my last old movie of the night with Joan Crawford call No More Ladies (1935).

(60,010 posts)Room design/decoration is fun to study.
Women wearing gloves and men wearing hats seem to be part of an long held clothing rule, one that did not disappear until either very late 50's or early 60's.
but "formal" gloves, the long ones, I think persisted even afer men stopped wearing hats.
I remember seeing Jackie Kennedy wearing long gloves at formal events.

Of course people did dress up back then.
Men wearing hats, I think President Kennedy changed that.

In reality, they were covering up their dishpan hands.

Now this is what I call ART!
