(34,139 posts)As soon as I finish writing this, I have to go outside in that suana to put out bird seed and pull some weeds. I've got to start getting up earlier to do outside stuff. Then it might be as cool as 72 F with 90% humidity and a 72 dewpoint. Goody.

(72,300 posts)Everything hurts when it's cold and damp.
Enjoy your gardening. I usually started at dawn when I had a plot out back to care for.

(34,139 posts)I know what you mean about the cold & damp. But even here in the heat when a low pressure system heads our way (like the tropical storm that went through last week) I ache, no matter how warm/hot it is.
This time of year gardening is no fun. I did all the fun parts - digging up beds, transplanting, putting in new plants - a couple of months ago. For the next 3-4 months it's just a matter of pulling weeds and nagging the kid into mowing (not my kid). My goal is to pull at least a bucketful of weeds five mornings a week.
Today I filled my little garden cart with weeds. They were from an area with no desirable plants so I didn't have to watch out for anything but ants and it went fast, especially when the fire ants came out. Most days I work on the bed with my "bulbs" - iris, daylilies, agapanthus, etc. I have to make sure I don't yank or step on them. The danged beggarweeds went from 2" tall to 2' tall in the last two weeks so I can't see most of my good plants at all!
I just got back in from hoeing around squash. Have to get it done before it gets "Bake you brains" hot out there.
High today in the mid-90s. :/

(34,139 posts)After spending last summer in hospital with the temperatures set to "cryogenic" I have no tolerance for heat. I can't believe I grew up in Florida with no A/C at all!
There is supposed to be a front coming through that would drop the humidity and temperatures - I hope it makes it this far south! It cleared Atlanta last night but I think it's falling apart cause there's no rain band on the radar.

(6,785 posts)A little thunder/lighting and some wind last night, now it's sunny and working it's way toward hellishly hot out there.
I can take the heat, but I get enough at work that I really don't want anymore at home.

(34,139 posts)Temps into the 80s, the bottom drops out and the rain cools things off, lowering the humidity level for a bit. That's what we should have!
This mid 90s and high humidity is a killer - literally. I watched the birds panting yesterday and went out in the heat to refill their bird baths. Then I turned on a sprinkler even thought the plants didn't really need it - the birds had more fun taking showers than they did taking baths!

(28,394 posts)Tomorrow morning is supposed to go down into the 40s. If I see a tomato by September, it will be a miracle.
Our air conditioning guy is coming today for annual service. At least we picked a good day for it!

(36,286 posts)Down here in Oswego in my tree shaded house, I am wearing a sweater indoors, shorts outdoors - and rubber boots - I've got standing water in places that have never flooded in 25 years!
Since I can't take the heat though, i'll take this!
On the plus side - nothing like snuggling down under a lot of bed covers!

(72,300 posts)It was sunny for most of today.
About those rubber boots: last weekend the news said we had already gotten 15 inches of rain over the last 5 weeks. My new Koi Pond needs another 10 inches of water so the guys will be importing water in a few days to finish filling it.
It's normal to wear a sweatshirt with shorts here. [img][/img]

(82,333 posts)Plus rain. HS graduation postponed until 8:30 am.

(72,300 posts)Even without work I can afford to travel that way.
Is this HS graduation your last/youngest child?

(82,333 posts)No, there's one in front of him, three behind. My plan for the youngest's college tuition is Social Security.

It is too damn hot to go out in the summer.

(72,300 posts)The bedrooms are full but my couch folds out to a queen sleeper.
We do get temps over 100 for a week some summers. Most of the time it's in the upper 80s to low 90s.

(18,705 posts)I just hate summer and the heat.
It is hard to cool off a house when it gets this hot.
Keep the couch ready.

(72,300 posts)The couch is reserved just for you.
It hasn't been used very much, there has always been a mattress cover in place.
You'll enjoy the Kio Pond out front. The town is filled with college kids year round. Lots of interesting to do without spending big bucks.

I just hate heat with a passion.
A few more years and I can retire early.

(72,300 posts)I have a little business as an escort pilot car for oversize trucks. I'll be doing that as long as I can drive. It's great meeting new people, seeing the great outdoors. Being totally retired is boring unless you have money to do things. When I work a little it helps a lot.
What is it that you do now?

(18,705 posts)It is a decent job and they are hard to find.
I will find something to do after I early retire.
I wished I had worked for the railroad like I should have.
I would be retired now.
