I just got notice that a person totally unknown to me, with no friends in common, "accepted my friend request". I did not send her a friend request.
Any ideas what could have happened?
I occasionally get the rare friend request from friends of friends, but I assume that's because they accidentally hit the "add friend" box. That seems understandable.
But this is strange. Did I forget to log out somewhere?
Edit to add: She IS now my facebook friend. Not talking about emails, not talking about phishing. I see her facebook posts and she sees all of mine. She accepted my friend request that I swear I never sent.

(6,785 posts)I'd look at the link in the email really really carefully. It's probably along the lines of www.faceboook.com.
I get them from time to time, the headers are always from some random number/letter combination yahoo/gmail account or from another country.

(27,630 posts)She is now my facebook friend. I got a notice on the little globe thingy on my facebook page that this person accepted my friend request.
I know certain apps will autofriend people, both on facebook and phones. Contact import will do the same.
Apparently it's a widespread problem, and Facebook is blaming user error, just like they do everything else.
Edited to add: Apparently there's a "Suggest friends" option which will try to make two people add one another. I'd check my settings and make sure I wasn't autoaccepting friend requests. That's...basically the only legitimate way I could imagine it happening.

(53,116 posts)usually guys from out of town hitting on random women online. It's weird, so I changed my privacy settings so I'm not searchable.

(3,220 posts)I accepted some creeper (learned my lesson after) who went to every single picture I had on there and posted things like "omfg you're so cute."
I ended up just not using it. Who needs the hassle?

Delete and forget, I say.

(6,154 posts)It's gotten better but I still find issues with it. My best guess is that someone else's friend request was accidentally linked to your account somehow, a bug. Or it's possible your account was hacked. I'd change the password just in case.

(27,630 posts)If it were a friend of a friend, then I could understand accidentally sending a friend request. Or if I had looked someone up and accidentally hit "add friend", or whatever. I know I never looked at her profile before, ever.
This woman is totally unconnected to anything in my profile, including likes or interests. We have, like, zero in common!
The only explanation I can think of is a glitch in the system.
That, or I left my facebook page open on a public computer and somebody played a prank on me.

(21,020 posts)pretty weird sometimes, doing shit nobody expects.
So the same thing has happened to me a couple of times.
I went into my privacy settings and used the "block" option.
That basically makes you both invisible to each other. Like, if this person went searching for your name in the Facebook community, you would not exist.
