1. Can it be worse than the reality TV they crank out for pennies on the dollar?...

I don't know I haven't seen it. Is this a remake or the original?

At least it's a show with a story right? I could be wrong. There's plenty of reality TV that's basically "let's get a camcorder and 10 attractive people with low IQs, stick them in a house together for a week and hit record"!

5. Like most of today's TV Series

which are cop shows or slight variations on the cop show theme, it runs using the same basic script devices.

A good looking small group of actors/characters.

A bit of character development for the lead characters, very, very little for the supporting cast.

A dark secret or several for the cast member(s) usually the estranged father or who killed their mother.

A overarching bad guy or a series of overarching bad guys with a grudge against a character(s) or society who will be plugged into the story line (my guess is during sweeps months) creating great difficulties for the character group.

and of course the unresolved sexual tension between some of the main character group.

They are pretty much all simply boring....

just tune in to any of the 'dime a dozen' reality shows and those will be worse... usually by a country mile. this evening, i paused for a moment on a show with a guy and a gal in a pool of muddy water feeling around looking for snapping turtles and being all worried about the hogs that wanted to get in the water... 'we're in danger here!' was the cry... and he appeared worried about the pigs.

99% of reality TV is pure garbage and not even real...

7. No, as bad as it is, it's not even the worst scripted drama on TV.

If we're talking shows that got renewed for next season, that'd be Revolution. (Plot holes that cannot be missed even for a second. The concept is awful, the writing is awful, the continuity is awful, the acting is awful, the premises contrived. How is this shit still on?)

If we're talking simply the worst drama that was televised this season, that'd be the impossible-to-follow-or-understand Cult.

If we're talking the worst drama currently being shown on any of the 5000 channels of Cable/Sat/Hulu/Roku, there's always the final several seasons of CSI: Miami. The original CSI is getting to be as bad...that sad workhorse has gone lame and needs to be put to pasture...or glue.

9. It's starting to be. I was a huge fan of the original series when I was a kid.

The re-make started at the tail-end of America's pro-war paroxysm of cheap, prime-time-ready flag-flailing patriotism. So they turned Jack Lord's no-nonsense investigator into this new guy's rah-rah Navy Seal muttonhead. Every few episodes, he gets together with one or another of his buddies from his active service days, and the formula is always the same:

"Navy Seal!"

Fist-bump.

"Tough Talk"

Danny is still a very likeable character, and Grace Park is a dream just to watch. But it doesn't make up for the increasingly shitty writing, the ooh-rah nationalism that was passe during the Dubyah years, and is now just lame, and the derivative plots.

Also awful: The idiotic explanation for why they are called 5-0. In TOS, it was because Hawaii is the 50th State. In the new version, it was McGarrett's jersey number (as a quarterback!) when he was in high school! Give me a break!

The need to keep calling Danny 'Dan-O', which made sense in the 60's, when adding an 'O' to someone's given name as a nickname was pretty common. It's idiotic to suggest that it is his daughter's pet-name for him.

Other stuff too numerous to mention here.

I'm done with the show. I gave up. Life is too short to watch bad TV.

I like crime dramas, simple, easy to follow;

but I did like the original one better.

I watch them for a vegetating entertainment experience,

not to gain knowledge.

I can watch David Suzuki for that,

or the History Channel.
