I'm going to the movies, I think. Not sure what I'll see, but I hardly ever go so it's kind of a treat.

it's always good to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary on your birthday!

I tend to buy myself a present and usually like it more than any I receive!

I was hoping/expecting my ex to acknowledge my birthday today in some way, even a text would have been nice, but nothing so far. Our communication is apparently all a one-way street. He keeps saying to keep in touch, but he NEVER calls. I have to initiate. I had some hope earlier that we might get back together, but I think he just feels sorry for me.

I'm sort of crushed actually.

I wish there were something to say that would make you feel better. We both know there isn't.

The best place for an 'ex' is the past...there is very rarely any benefit to bringing them into the present, or attempting to do so. I have a girlfriend who married the same man three times. They divorced three times as well. The issues that drove you apart would still be there, waiting to lay you low yet again.

While the heart loves whom it will, most times the head can take control. It might be better to let your good sense take control of this and move on. You'll feel better about yourself and your life when you do.

He seems to go back and forth as well.

I wish I could just let go. For some reason (maybe my age or the fact that this was the longest lasting relationship of my life) it seems to have hit me harder than anything else has. I feel profoundly sad that I never seem to get to have what other people have, which is someone to care about me and only, to share my life with.

I just meant in some of the things he has said. One day he says he's applying for jobs in Washington, DC, or near here, but then the next time he seems to want to stay where he is.

little or nothing to do with you. Again, I am so sorry, but I hate to see you torture yourself over him or the situation.
