My neighbors dog keeps coming in my yard..

and I'm tired of picking up dog poop when I don't even own a dog..

I have never seen her walk it...she kind just leaves it tethered all day..

He has figured out how to slither off his collar...and always makes a dash for my place...I work from home most of the time, so if I see him out I got get him, because I am afraid that he will be hit by a car

He made off with one of my fav shoes that I usually leave out on my porch, apparently it is his new chew toy

I don't want to own the owner's feelings, but how do I deal with this? I don't have a pet

She may not know that her dog is having this behavior.

Edit: Tethering all day is illegal in many states. Perhaps a call to animal control may help.

It is against the Humane Society's guidelines. You can go to their web site, print off the guideline, and send it to her anonymously.

Or, if you can, put up a fence. If it's your property, if you can afford it, and etc.

But I don't know if you can do that.

The dog who will not be denied the greener grass on the other side of the fence.

We pick up the poo from our very big dog. The neighbor to the east of us complained about stepping in poo. He thought it belonged to PIA. Oy! Poo problems stink!

Not saying that's what is happening here. I have no idea and didn't see any of this so I can't judge but people who tether their dogs 24/7 till they go mad counts in my book. HATE people who mistreat animals. One of the few things that actually gets my blood boiling.

Not that I believe in hell.

Hi,
I have a neighbor who I never see walk his dog. He lets it out of its kennel and half the time it comes over and poo's in my yard. I scoop it up with a garden trowel and toss it back into his yard. He has to know it is doing it, I find it really really rude, especially since the only time the dog is let out of its kennel is when he is back there with it. Plus, he has so much stuff in his backyard the dog has no room to poo there, which is not my fault. He has a nice little fenced off area in his yard with nice landscaping and a pond that his dog can't get into, a giant trampoline, a deck and a bunch of other stuff. The dog doo in my yard has slowed down in frequency the last few weeks, maybe he got the picture, but I will continue to toss it back anytime I find some.

Peace

Hi,
Gee whiz, that takes some stones, it was his dog going in your yard and he does that? Geesh! I'm glad that he left. This guy next to me seems to get a new dog every 2 years, not sure where the others end up.

Peace

How well do you know your neighbor? What is your relationship like? What are the laws in your state? Ordinances in your town? I would check those things first.

Because leaving a puppy or dog alone tethered all day, especially without shelter, is not good care.

If your neighbor is well-meaning, but ignorant, then talk to her about fencing versus tether, need for shelter, need for companionship when human is home, the danger to the puppy, etc.

If the neighbor is a total jerk, then the next convenient time the puppy has slipped its collar and is in your yard, put it in your car and drive it to the *furthest* no kill shelter you can reach in a reasonable time, tell them you found it wandering loose without collar or tags and leave them to find it a decent home. If it's microchipped, she'll have to go a distance to the puppy and pay to get it back, and it just may be a lesson learned for her.

I'm serious about this. I had a neighbor's dogs crossing a busy street where people speed, and chasing me around my garden for 18 months. The neighbor was inside his house and wouldn't answer the door most of the time. Other times, he just laughed. Then his girlfriend moved in with him and called the cops on *me* because my goat had slipped under the gate and was grazing *in my own yard.* Then another neighbor's 2 large labs started coming to my property all the time. They are right next door and came through the moose trail, so I didn't worry too much. One even started to attack me once, and my dog ran him off. Then my dogs followed them home one day and I had Mrs. Neighbor in my face screeching at me. 2 weeks later they repeated, and Mrs. Neighbor tried to run them down in my own yard.

That's when I came up with my above plan...to lure them into my barn with some meat and then take them to a no-kill shelter and drop them off.

.

I would put the poop in a bag with a note on it - "I believe this belongs to you" and throw it over the fence to the dog/puppy owner's side. You could even go so far as to leave contact information, your phone #, e-mail or regular mailing address. (not inside the bag . . )

I'm quite sure after the owner discovers a collection of bags in her yard they will make efforts to rectify it.

IF the bag gets thrown back onto your yard - then I would get legal.

Some of the advice in the replies here are really risky to the person who owns the property...

I found this site which has pretty comprehensive, step by step actions you should take to minimize conflict with your neighbor, but still resolve the issue: http://badneighboradvice.com/pages/my-neighbor-s-pet-keeps-coming-into-my-yard

OMG... that's terrible! Unfortunately, the problem was that he was able to get loose. If that had been corrected, the poor dog would still be alive. I've never met this dog, but I feel really sad.
