We have one cat that goes wild over it, and the other one ignores it.
The possum outside has no interest in it.

Not my cat, but you get the idea:

(5,611 posts)I could never get him to show much interest. He would get annoyed when he couldn't catch anything to bite on (like his furry toy mouse, which he loved)

(9,913 posts)the Bombay will just look at it and if it gets any closer she will just run from it. The 14 year olds will paly wth it for awhile. The year old tabby is a Red Dot Addict! She will come running when she hears the drawer open where it is kept. I can get to to chase it up the stairs into the 2nd floor countless times.
WHen she attempts to catch it with her paws, she sounds like a drummer doing a solo.

(27,677 posts)It's on a tiny chain that barely makes a noise but when I pick it up they come running and start scanning the floor/walls.

(21,020 posts)if I had cats.
However, I have two German Shepherds.
Lucy loves it. She goes nuts over it.
Nikki thinks it's lame, but turns into a wild animal for soap bubbles.

(10,953 posts)goes crazy over it. Sometimes I wait until after dark and then take him out to the backyard to chase it. He would chase it all over the yard. His younger sister who is a terrier mix would chase her brother while he chased the red dot. It was such an easy way to exercise both dogs at one time.

(16,862 posts)Dogs can become fixated on it. Bailey would sit and wait for the dot to come back. After a time I stopped playing with the pointer around him. The other day I brought it out for the cats (after over a year) and Bailey's head immediately snapped to the floor looking for the dot.
