Shopping for burial urns was not on my Saturday to do list.

So I’m sitting here having coffee and mother in law strolls into kitchen good morning then sits down with this catalog of urns i have no clue where she got this catalog.

I’m at kitchen bar having coffee deciding on if i wanna add banana peppers to my sloppy Joe’s.

So she pours coffee sits down puts on her readers and starts getting me involved shopping for urns.

MIL- What do you think of this one it kind of matches Elizabeth’s.
Duncanpup- I’m thinking really mother and daughter urns I’m trying to keep a straight face here serious.
At this time Dunc the golden retriever is tapping my ankle going wooooo woooo hey i know you have raw burger there let’s do the sharing.

MIL- You know i want to be cremated don’t let (names her other daughter) change your mind and have me buried your my executor of the estate.

I then added look I got it all figured out on how we’re gonna dispose of your carcass . We’re gonna take you to one of those Asian spas where the carp will eat the dead skin off your feet problem solved.

Yet I so screwed 19 and his significant other she’s a very nice young lady. I heard them coming downstairs and they went to pour coffee and sit down at the kitchen bar.

I said I’m hitting the shower yea no gym today again got text it’s closed i think the one owner great people her mom is going into long term care.

So I’m in bathroom and door opens and it’s 19 oh dad i owe you. He said yea I’m going back upstairs get shower Amber his girlfriend was now stuck with shopping for urns.

3. I've participated in burials at sea

Both in caskets and in urns. Reserve ships got unusual assignments. A couple of times, I was among the rifle-bearers who delivered the salute. Additionally, we were instructed to shoot into caskets if they didn’t pop upright and then start sinking below the waves. Thankfully, that didn’t happen .

7. One thing I learned..

10. Bury me without a casket in an unmarked grave

I've done the math, and this is the most environmentally sound option. Cremation is better than apportioning real estate in a graveyard but is actually quite energy intensive. Of course, digging any kind of grave is a bit of a bother, so perhaps burial at sea is best.

12. 11 years ago I made the decision to go with

the Neptune Society and paid for everything, cremation, wood urns, even a ash holding picture thing.

I explained to my wife that it was better to do it while we were alive than to have some funeral ghoul pitching caskets and plots to our sons.

13. I'm not sure I need to be cremated as I spent my whole life making an ash of myself.
