(3,277 posts)She had a little red bird toy that chirped. She would take it to her bowl of wet food and go back and forth from eating her food and to attacking her prey. 😂 We went through a lot of gross, food covered, birdies during that time. Not quite as sweet as the above video though!

(21,797 posts)she was a tiny kitten. She's 9 years old now and it is her comfort toy for whenever she is anxious. Not the same chicken. I've had to replace it several times when previous ones got too dirty or developed broken feet and beaks (made of plastic).
As a kitten, Ember (the cat) carried her chickie everywhere and groomed it like it was her baby. Sometimes she brought chickie to bed to lie down between us.
Several times I came home to find chickie in Ember's water dish, occasionally in the food dish.
She no longer carries chickie around everywhere. But she grabs it during "emergencies" like when I'm in the shower. She stands outside the shower crying pitifully with chickie in her mouth.
When I leave the apartment, she grabs chickie for comfort. I always find chickie in a different spot when I come home.
Ember also had a stuffed cat that was as big as her when she was just a few months old. She dragged the stuffed cat around, tripping over it. But when she got to about 7 months old, the stuffed cat became her prey. She stalked it, pounced, and mercilessly sunk her teeth into its neck and gave a fast, sharp jerk that would have broken the neck of a real animal. I cringed when I saw her do that and was grateful that she considered me her friend.

(3,277 posts)The red birdie as she now tries to eat the feathers! But, she does have these little mice I buy that she spends a lot of time gutting. Of course, they have to be replaced once the stuffing starts to escape. She also fetches and these little mice are the perfect weight and size for fetching.
I have a friend that had an Ember that lived a very long time. Great name.

(21,797 posts)She is a tortoiseshell tabby. She has black and gray striped legs, partial black stripes on her back and head. The tabby M on her forehead and the tabby lines extending from her eyes are red.
In between the black and gray on her tail, back, and sides there are random streaks of red. There is white ticking on some of the black hairs and black ticking on some of the red hairs.
Her appearance reminded me of black and gray ashes with simmering red coals, so Ember seemed to suit her. It also suits her temperament. She is cozy, sweet, and cuddly, but can also flare up like stimulated embers into a fire.
Sorry that I don't have any pics to post. I used to have several good ones, but they were lost when my phone had a meltdown. Foolishly, I did not have them saved.
Ember's mother had a strikingly beautiful calico coat. Ember has all the same colors, but arranged differently. Father is unknown.
