Have to deal with it now because, this is what I will have this summer...only bigger and more spreading.
So, late PM, I'm about 1/2 way thru. Had a lot of sucker vines to cut to get there. Essentially, the tree is dead. I am sure that the the vine killed it. Strangled and unable to utilize it's leaves. It's sort of an eco-skeleton now, providing a base for the vine to grow from.
Tomorrow, we kill the tap root. The vine has jumped to another Spruce tree and it's gotta be 50 feet up there.
Tools: Electric Chainsaws (1 reg and 1 with 10 ft extension), lopper, hatchet, pruning shears (handheld). I really like my electric saws....Light weight and can deal with pretty much all delimbing needs.
Music: Dead - Dicks Picks #35 August 24, 1971. 5 hours (2 shows). Went from the battle to the back deck to enjoy the late afternoon sun. Tonight, I watch the Celtics deconstruct the Miami Heat.
Life is good.

(6 posts)That, my man, is a trophy sized example of bittersweet. My advice is Take no prisoners. The root system on that baby is massive so itll send up shoots that youll be chasing for seasons to come. Vigilance will be your watchword!

(86,802 posts)or something, that thing is a monster and it was all the way to the top of that second tree. I wonder what could kill it dead without trashing everything around it.
Glad you're getting after it, though. Has to be done.

(86,802 posts)Pace yourself, it's going to be like untangling a fine chain getting that shit out of the tree, or enough of it to keep it from strangling the tree. It's a task.
Looking forward to updates in the future.
Say hi to Skippa.
