Mine-From "It's Still Rock and Roll For Me," by Billy Joel.
"Should you try to be a straight A student, if you are then you think too much."
I spent high-school, and college trying to become one. Mostly because one of the nuns wrote on my report card in fourth grade that a C average is probably the best my parents could ever expect out of me.
I set out on a mission to prove her wrong, even though several of my other teachers along the way had already told me, she was full of it, because they knew I was smarter than she was giving me credit for. Still I felt driven.
I made the honor roll all four years of high-school, made the Dean's List at both the Community College and Private College I attended, as well as graduating with honors. I also was inducted into the Social Science Honor Society for never having less than a B+.
I was always mad I never got a 4.0, but went back for 2 years to get a paralegal degree, and finally got my 4.0. So I did prove that nun wrong.
Unfortunately after 10 years as a historian, my anxiety and depression got the better of me, so Billy is probably right. I should have just had more fun along the way, and not cared so much about who thought I was smart or not.

(5,182 posts)Well I am just a vagabond
A drifter on the run
And eloquent profanity
It rolls right off my tongue
I liked the song so well that I used 'Vagabond' as my AM CB handle. Never ran into anyone else that used that for theirs.

(15,389 posts)I routinely joke that if I could control reality, I would make it so that all noise in a room would be interrupted by a loud record scratch, the chorus from that son would start playing, and I would enter through a doorway that had inexplicably fogged over.
Of course, this is just a running joke and not serious. I'm not THAT egotistical.

(15,389 posts)I think the song, "My Brilliant Feat," by Colin Hayes sums up most people's lives pretty well. The invincibility of youth; the zenith of your life that you might always strive to reach again but also maybe the maturity to reflect back on that time with fondness and a different perspective, and how you'll be remembered when you're gone. It will be played at my funeral.
Did someone call my name
Like a distant drum is beating
Or is it just another dream of long ago?
I dance again, I am spinning
In the light I am living
And I can feel the power rushing through my veins
Once upon a time I could do no wrong
For the candle flickers
The flame is never gone
To my brilliant feat
They all pay heed
I hear the crowds roar oh, so loudly
Is it a game of chance or merely circumstances?
A jack to a king and back
Then you have to pay to play
The world, it won't wait for you
It's got its own things to do
The sun's gotta rise and drive another night away
And as I listen to the silence
I can hear thunder in the distance
To my brilliant feat
They all pay heed
I hear the crowds roar oh, so loudly
To my brilliant feat
I make grown men weep
And still my eyes grow oh, so cloudy

(42,766 posts)Desperado, you know you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom
Well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking
Through this world all alone
And don't your feet get cold in the wintertime?
The sky won't snow, and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night-time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you (let somebody love you)
Let somebody love you before it's too late
More than a line or two ... my apologies.
