Really more rare medium….
Then a slice of American (or half slice if home).
A slice of Mozzarella
Fried onions
Soft Bun
Pickles on the side.

order of deep fried mushrooms and a Diet Pepsi ( because I like how it tastes)

If it’s a really good medium rare hamburger I might not add anything. Maybe a dill pickle slice or two. Minimalist hamburger.🍔

It changes but usually a good medium rare burger (has to be quality meat, otherwise I cook it to medium), sharp cheddar, caramelized onions, bacon and ketchup (or bbq sauce).

I know lots of people like to get creative with making the biggest, most over the top monstrosity when it comes to setting themselves apart from other burgers, but I’ll take the minimalist backyard burger any day.

Just give me a grilled burger with cold Spanish onion, tomato, lettuce and real cheese, pickle on the side, toasted bun with a whisper of mayo and a cold IPA. I would be so happy.

But only on both buns before the burger. Then a thick slice of cheddar, lettuce, must be iceberg, it’s nice and firm, then one slice of onion. However, we don’t eat much red meat lately. So when we have burgers, they taste exceptionally good.

The one you started that read, "What condiments or extras do you like on your hamburger? Me---cheese, ketchup, pickle, litle bit of onion." How is this thread different from that one?

Did not do it on purpose. What can I say, I am old, on meds. grieving for my father who died recently. Did you look the information up to see exactly when and what I posted.? I have to ask, why would you do that?

It wasn't that long ago. Incidentally, I like my burgers with mustard, mayonnaise, onions, pickles and cheese. But NO KETCHUP! I hate ketchup. A slice of tomato, okay, but not lettuce. Too much stuff on a sandwich and it gets so thick I can't open my mouth wide enough to get it in.

Unless I am at Tommy's Grill and Patio in Fort Worth. There are so many interesting combos available it is hard to choose (Green chiles and goat cheese?)
These days I get the Bunless Burger Salad with jalapeno ranch dressing. They use really good meat (grass fed from Nolan Ryan's ranch)

Also the owner is a fervent Democrat

thinly sliced tomato, bacon and sweet relish. Also iceberg lettuce if it's very fresh and crunchy.

I would also mention that I like everything but the mayo on top of the meat patty. I don't like the current trend at some restaurants of building the burger upside-down.

Seems to be a trend at pricey burger joints, which are getting to be a thing here in Northern California.

I add some dill chips, a hard-fried egg, and ketchup. 90% beef is the best, but 85% works too. 93% is a bit dry. Regular beef, not grass-fed, the taste is different. Two pieces of deli swirl rye bread. A fresh bun works if there is no rye bread.

...it's not added afterward. We put the cheese on while the patties are still on the grill. 30-45 seconds & it gets melted.
Also, I sautee onions & mushrooms & deglaze with red wine, then cook to reduce. So, it's onions & mushrooms in a wine sauce.
That, a slice of tomato & stone ground mustard. Maybe lettuce, but I only want iceberg on a burger. My wife is more flexible about that.
About ⅓ of the time, I toast the buns a bit, too.

Well, you've asked a loaded question on two levels:

#1. I don't cook, so I don't make my burgers

#2. I was born and raised in Texas but I've lived in California most of my adult life (since 1988).............SO...............
When I'm in TX, I'll have a Whataburger w/cheese, mayo, and pickles (I'm in TX quite often, in fact I'm in Dallas now, because
a dear friend of mine has a small business and I need the work so it's great - except I get really homesick for CA).

When I'm in CA, I'll have an In-N-Out burger fixed the same way: Cheese, mayo, and pickles

I wouldn't dare say which is better .....Whataburger or In-N-Out! I actually went to high school with the founder and owner's
daughter of Whataburger in Corpus Christi, Tx @ W.B. Ray. She's good people and is a major progressive! I think the family sold the chain a few years back....
