OP
Don't touch that third rail. I may be the only one, but I like the original, from 1968.

For some reason, which I do not at all get, there are people out there who hate that song.

Ditto. (though I can abide the late great Donna Summer's disco version occasionally...LOL)

I'll get to this after I've got some work done.
Thanks, and good morning.

What's their problem? I've liked the original since I first heard it, all seven or eight minutes of it.

(984 posts)6. It's the silly lyrics.
"Wichita Lineman" makes up for that, though.

Someone one left the cake out in the rain,
And I dont think that I can take it
Cause it took so long to bake it
And Ill never have that recipe againnnnn
Oh, NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I mean, Ill sing along with it, but I dont need to hear it more than once every few years.

Richard Harris is the King of this (lyrically silly) but (for many) melodically pleasing song.

Thank you! They are fantastic! Each one, so beautiful, and so talented.

(17,142 posts)7. I turned the opening notes of the Richard Harris original into my ringtone. Then, when the song comes on my car system,
I think I'm getting a phone call.
I bet I'm the only person on Planet Earth that has a McArthur Park ring tone.
