Holy Shit.

It's been a bad few days.

Beloved family member died. Grieving hard.

Just got back from the ER. Diverticulitis and another secondary infection. Real bad pain.

Got a shitload of IV morphine.

I'm on two blood thinners and the hole where my IV was blew out after they removed it, and after the nurse left the room. I didn't notice it for about 30 seconds.

No lie...I've never seen so much blood in person in my life. It got over everything in the room. I was in my underwear (in the process of putting my street clothes back on after discharge instructions) and had to stick my head out the door and yell "HELP"!

Three nurses came in and they simultaneously said "HOLY SHIT". My white socks are now red. Lost so much blood that I got woozy.

I have pictures, but I can't post them because they would get juried for being gore.

That's all I have for today.

THE END

I've had some of those things happen. They all suck. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it, but the only way to get past it is to go through it.
So take some drugs. Eat, drink something. Go to bed or your couch. Watch some basketball. Or something else. Recuperate, and recover.

Thinking SPRING, when life reinvigorates after a long cold winter.

Maybe something for you to meditate upon. I remember when my mom had her first big heart attack. All I could think of to do was to wear green. And I did that a lot. It helped to remind me to fixate on healing vibes. It actually helped. Cuz not being a doctor or nurse reminded me that I had to do little things from the sidelines to generate “a flow” focusing on healing.

It’s kind of a woo-woo thing, I know. But it helped focus my mind and keep me going without LOSING my mind to fear and worry. Something different to fixate upon.

No blood would come out of my finger doing a blood sugar fingerstick
I shook my hand and squeezed the fingertip I squirted my blood in my face. Been more careful since that.

I was getting a cat scan with contrast after my head hitting the ground and they announced they are putting in the contrast I was preparing for that weird flush feeling but instead something sounded like a gunshot I felt warm liquid gushing out of my arm I tried to wiggle out of the cat scan machine..scared some nut was shooting up the ER.

Turns out the IV exploded.I had no idea an IV could explode!

Anyways get better soon and look after that IV hole !

30. Blood thinners usually mean pressure bandages
Fri Mar 22, 2024, 04:36 PM
Mar 22

and I think those 3 nurses learned that today. Given how rushed the avearage ER nurse is, they'll probably start putting pressure bandages on everybody, just in case. I always did, it only takes a second and prevents a lot of messes. If you ever have another hole poked into you, ask them to put a pressure bandage on it. You get to do that.

You can get blood out of your clothing. Fresh blood is easy, just flush it with hydrogen peroxide and it's gone. Old blood: rub strong detergent into it, add a little COLD water, and continue to scrub until the fibrin is loosened , the suds are turning brownish, and it looks like the fabric is cleaning up. Rinse with COLD water and repeat the process if you need to..

If it's in your running shoes, scrub the blood with detergent and throw into the washer with COLD water.

As you can tell from the caps, you need to use COLD water consistently. Hot water sets the blood in and you'll never get rid of it, you'll need new clothes.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time between grief and a body that's not cooperating. At least you can get the blood out.

Back in '99, my house burned down. And my mom was in late stage ALS. 2 months into the build, I had a significant artery that burst above the nose and between the eyes, 2 weeks after her passing. I had nose rockets that diverted the blood to my stomach. I kept working for about a week and I was out of gas. At check-in, I had to use the BR and puked a quart of blood. Showed the nurse and got priority service. Had a stent put in 2 days later. Thankfully, no problems since.

The reason I mention my situation is I really think that the fact I was dealing with my mom's situation (2 hours away) and building the log home for the family. At that time, I wasn't taking any BP medicine, but I think the combined stresses must have shot my BP way up and that contributed the artery blowing out.

Hang in there....I know we share similar outlooks on life and I know you'll be back better than ever.
