"It feels like fiction but it's not." Um... yes it is.

The British royal family is only real in the same way reality television is real. Completely manufactured. First of all, they're not really kings and queens and princesses and all that. They don't rule anything other than elaborate ceremonies. Second of all, there is no second of all. They exist purely to provide grist for the tabloid mill. They dress in elaborate outfits and have impeccable manners. And impeccable manors. Many Britons are growing to resent the royals because the rumors and publicity are often bad, casting a bad light on the nation. The fascination with royal daily lives seems almost deranged. And they're expensive, with their big estates and elaborate events. The closest thing we have is the Trump family, kind of a trailer trash knockoff.

It's anachronistic, expensive, and anti-democratic.

Also time they set their "empire" free. Divest it, already.

they are entitled to choose their own leaders.

I've heard alot of complaints, but have seen no popular action aimed at changing the structure of their government.

But I'm not a Brit, so it's none of my business.

It's none of my biz either. It's a mostly benign institution, and if Brits are willing to tolerate it, that's okay. If it was up to me (it isn't), I'd say can it.

In the days of old, the king was a bad-ass who would lead an army.

This is what we have now.

His mother wore it better ... much better.

End the monarchy now.
