6. When our sons were in their mid-later teens, I realized...

...they had never had Slinkys when they were little boys. How could I have neglected to provide such an iconic childhood experience?

Determined to make up for my negligence, I got them each one of the classic metal ones as a stocking stuffer that year. Our younger son spent all day shifting it from one hand to the other. That made me smile, and I felt redeemed.

17. They Made A Copper Colored Version

Copper wouldn't work as a spring, of course.
So, they electroplated spring steel flat wire in a vat of curious & zinc chloride. The zinc helps keep the copper from turning green
It forms a copper colored patina of the steel. It will wear off in time.
You will see the vintage copper coated versions on eBay & other sites.
I had the 2" coil version when I was a kid. Smaller than the other Slinkys, but it looked cool.
