Our new manufactured home has been delivered to the site.
Some of you may remember months ago I said we were moving. After many delays, it's finally going to happen. My grandson has a home on five acres in California's northern Gold Country and he wanted us to be closer to him and the great grandchildren. So he has purchased a manufactured home and we will move there and rent it from him.
Hopefully, this will be our forever home. As delayed as it was, (it was supposed to be there in March) it all worked out because our current mobile home took longer than expected to sell. But it is now sold and we will be moving on Sunday. There is still much work to be done to set the new place up, water, electric, septic, etc. We will stay at our daughter's place nearby until it's ready to move into.
We have been packing all week and I'm sitting in a mobile home full of boxes. It's going to be a busy week, so If I'm not here as much as usual, you now know why.

(131,162 posts)I rent a house 7 miles from one of my daughters, and while her busy life with 2 young kids (and a new puppy) doesn't enable us to see each other too often, our times together are great!

(28,811 posts)my oldest son and i have talked about him getting a granny shack up at his cabin. i want to go home to CA, but can't really afford to, plus I have 2 sons here in NC, one who will likely soon be starting a family. But how I would love for us all to be living in the same area.

(22,173 posts)to Calif. (Palm Springs), they had came back to Missouri to take care of family. Now they're going back. It's going to be hard and we'll miss them, but like I told them, 'Hey, you're moving back home, and at least we got to know each other!'.
Home is where the heart is at.

(24,330 posts)Only 500 sq ft. We are planning on a good size storage shed, but we still have some decisions to make about getting rid of some things. Some of the non-profit thrift stores in the area are going to benefit from our move. We just have to face the fact that a smaller place is better for us as we grow old. It so much less to take care of. And being brand new, everything should work well for about 10 years. Not to mention much more energy efficiency. After a few years of Covid isolation in an 800 sq ft mobile home, all I can say is it's a good thing my wife and I not only love each other, we also really like each other.

(31,406 posts)outside adjacent to the home, it will seem like a much larger space with the addition of an outdoor room.
Congratulations and I hope your move goes well.
Mr.Bill
(24,330 posts)a screened-in area is planned. We pay the cost of living in California, we might as well enjoy the weather. The area we are moving to will catch a little snow most winters, but the summers are on avearge five degrees cooler in the summer than where we live now, which will be a welcome change.

(14,082 posts)You must be relieved. Im thinking about selling my house and moving out of state into a manufactured home. My neighborhood is becoming crime-ridden, weve recently had two instances of theft of some of our outdoor items and two of our neighbors had actual home burglaries.

(24,330 posts)We are happy with the home itself, but there are a lot of hidden costs, and a lot of flaky people in the business of transporting them and setting them up. Research the people you hire and plan on unexpected delays.

(1,874 posts)Congratulations on the sale and the move falling into place. It is so hard to get all of the pieces to fit together. Enjoy your new place and your people there! 💗😊

(24,330 posts)We had an offer fours after it was listed. We hadn't even started looking for another place. I spent a few weeks moving all our stuff to a storage locker and we were going to have to move in with our daughter until we found a place. We weren't even thinking of a mobile home, buy we found a fixer-upper in a nice park and did tons of work to it. All new kitchen, paint, fixing bad electrical work, etc. It paid off because after enjoying it for seven years, we got all our money back and then some when we sold it. We will pay off some debt and become renters with our grandson as the landlord, and have more disposable cash now. And the grandson gets free baby sitting.

(24,330 posts)The land is sloped, the side of a hill. A lot of dirt had to be moved to clear a level pad for the new house. The paved driveway connects them. We are looking for a golf cart to get around the property. There's a huge potential vegetable garden behind the big house.
My grandson is quite the party animal and has lots of friends. Some of them I watched grow up with him. He throws good parties and BBQs. I'm looking forward to being able to go to the parties, then walk a few steps downhill and be home.

(3,976 posts)We moved into a manufactured home two years ago and it's been great. It was only five years old when we bought it and it's built as well as any stick house. Very well designed too.
