I had never heard of them but my brother bought me a concert ticket to see them for my birthday. Anyone been to one of their concerts?

(6,559 posts)The first part of the show is usually a very moving story in music, and the second a rocker of a show. Be prepared for pryotechnics, lasers and out of this world musicianship.

(7,451 posts)They were doing "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve" which they are doing again this year. The overall showmanship and musicianship is top notch. They are heavier at times than your typical Christmas music and don't really play the standards. They are telling their own story with their own original music their own way, which is awesome. They had a huge hit with Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 which you've probably heard.

(1,773 posts)My husband and I felt uncomfortable and left. We also received free tickets. A little too evangelical for us. To be fair it was right before Christmas. Technically fine, and I am glad people enjoy them, just not for us. They come to our area every year around Christmas.

(15,392 posts)But I find I enjoy them more... spread out. I enjoy Christmas music, and I listen to the stations that switch to 24/7 Xmas music after Thanksgiving. So I enjoy when one of their songs comes on the radio or in a video with house Christmas lights, but ten songs in a row is overkill for me.

(2,025 posts)Weve been given CDs and were offered a ticket before but turned it down, after doing some listening to the CDs and chucking them as Muzak. If youre given a ticket, and you have a night to waste in over-produced Christmas music and big egos, its maybe not something youll precisely dislike. But it all sounds the same, theres little originality there, and they sound like theyre committed to this hyper-commercialized sound because they believe theyre the best thing ever. I swear, its like listening to a Disney rendition of Its a Small World over and over. Itll be absolutely perfectly produced and perfectly performed, but no matter how you slice it, its banal pap. Yet, people pay big bucks to go to Disneyland to do that over and over, so it certainly has an audience.
Me, Im glad I turned down the ticket.
