Hi all .
I'm getting together with old friends tonight for game night. We used to do this on a regular basis but as everyone's lives became more complicated (kids, careers, etc.) we haven't done this in a long time (years).
The games we used to play were Scattergories, Taboo, Trivial Pursuit, and others.
Has anyone ever played Blank Slate?
The group is about 10 people and we normally play in groups. I need ideas!

(36,527 posts)It's fun. It moves fast which is good for a party of 10, & it's easy to learn, also good for a one-night thing with a lot of people.

(25,983 posts)Wil Wheaton used to host a YouTube program called Tabletop that might give you a lot of great ideas about newer board games, though it is bit outdated now. You can find it on the Geek and Sundry channel, but here's a playlist that shows the games in order without gag reels and other clutter:

I'm envious you have a game group - what fun!

(86,802 posts)Is a good one. Played it a few years ago with a group, it takes a little to explain it all but once you get going, it's pretty entertaining. I remember that it was a lot of fun.

(6,374 posts)Teams can be any number of people. Player gets a word or phrase on screen and tries to get team mates to guess. There's a timer with very audible ticking which gets faster as your time is running out. We have laughed ourselves silly playing this game.
One year, the phrase to guess was "On Golden Pond." Our youngest teammate guessed "On Goldie Hawn" and he has never lived it down.

(230 posts)That Things and Relative Insanity are usually played at our gatherings when the youngest and a few others have retired from the fun for the evening. Most of my familys teens and adults find these fun and laughter abounds, but its important to know your groups humor range.

(22,274 posts)This is a great game because you don't have to have a table of 4.
In fact, an odd number is better.
I have played with as many as 11 at the table.

we had a house rule that the 2 of clubs was the wild card. We did not use the Joker.

(22,274 posts)everyone knew Friday was game night and friends would drift in and out, sit in on a round or two and then have coffee. It's great that people can come and go from the game.
Then there was the time that a 10 year old beat the sox off of of the rest of us! She was crafty!
Our version had fewer rounds and we had a house rule about the 2 of clubs. If you used it as a 2 in a run or set, it was a dead card; if you played it as a wild card in a run, you could take it if you had the right card to place in the run.

(22,274 posts)and younger kids can play it if they know their colors
Bunko is another good one for a group

is very entertaining. Im too tired to explain it well right now (bumpy recovery from an appendectomy a week ago), so heres a very short jist - the contestant draws a card with a word, and everyone else has to come up with a one word clue, which they share with everyone except the contestant. Duplicate clues can either drop out, or if playing with a small number, pick a different clue.
More challenging than it sounds and suitable for 9-10 and up.
