"hey if u shelter us and feed us we'll kill your vermin" and humans were like "yeah sounds lit" and now we still shelter and feed them but they do absolutely nothing in exchange???"
Love both this tweet and the replies. Some of them below.

Cats: give me food you hairless freak
They'd run the world if they didn't sleep 20 hours a day.

They have, however, somehow clearly mastered the art of cuteness

The sweetest and handsomest kittycat boy you'd ever wanna meet
Little guy doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He's never even done the 'sorta attack you cause you've been petting me too long' thing that most cats do. He just leaves, never showing anything like hostility.

(33,643 posts)The feeling is very mutual. Freaking LOVE this cat right back. He's the bestest, and I've known many gatos in my day.
Unfortunately he's dealing with some health issues ... ear infection that seems to have become neurological in nature i.e. ear infection well fixed but he still has vestibular issues with balance and walking. He seems to have adapted but it's bumming me out, and going to cost a lot to even have assessed, let alone treated. And he's 13 yo. Kinda don't know what to do if I'm honest, but as I say he's just rolling with it.

(1,724 posts)The new soft bed is so much better!
And most important, the cats love it too.
I wake up and all of them are in the bed with me now but not much room left for me.
Anything at all to accommodate the needs and wishes of a bunch of old cats.

(2,579 posts)I have revered Dear Boris from my childhood. He was responsible for me becoming an actor, and the reason that I portrayed him in a one man show seven years ago. It's been some sixty years since I last heard this recording, listening now, I was actually moved to tears.
My own three Cats Who Walk By Themselves gathered around and listened intently, with knowing looks on their faces!

(548 posts)And he knows truth.
The first time I heard this "Just So Story" it was read by Stirling Holloway. I loved it then (sometime in the sixties) and still do. I did not know that Boris had read it also... and I think that I like his better.
I googled Holloway and now I have Winnie the Pooh and so much else to explore with that wonderful voice.
Sometimes I get tired of the news.

(13,594 posts)points out bugs to us. She also has at times lead us to where she has thrown up. Yes I know gross, but glad she points it out anyway.
Mine have done the same.
Our current kitty is a miracle: an orange tabby that doesn't shed!!

Another cat: Also, pet me! If I'm in the mood, I might purr for you. Then again, I might bite your hand. Why not live dangerously and find out? 😼
...........
Yeah, they have us figured out all right!

(410 posts)I have long ago resigned myself to the simple fact that the pecking order in this house is my wife, Grendel ( our sixteen year old cat) and Gojira (our 10 year cat) and finally me ( the 60 odd year bulter to the cats) I've always presumed it was like this throughout the civilized world.

(21,783 posts)Call a cat and it makes a note to follow up when it's ready.
My cat is actually a very helpful roommate who does many things to earn her keep. She chases down wrinkles when I make the bed (and only creates a few of her own). She keeps counters and tables clear of clutter (and leaves floor clearance to me as my share of chores). She honors reciprocity by giving me massages when I lie down, IF I massage her head and ears first.
She performs scientific experiments around home, e.g. checking to see that the water does go down the drain, unwinding rolls of yarn to discover how long they are, testing gravity from time to time to make sure that Newton got it right, experimenting with keyboards to see what various keys can do.
She develops my character by keeping me humble compared to her own speed and agility and her cleverness in hiding things. She maintains my alertness by rushing at me from inside her tunnels or from behind furniture.
So, overall, she is an asset.

(21,783 posts)I do wish that she would just take Newton's law as well established, needing no more experiments.

(17,186 posts)I put a cat in front of a palmetto bug, crawling across the floor, and the cat was a textbook study in ignoring it. I tried several variations of this, thinking that the cat would see in the roach something to chase and play with and kill. But it was like, the roach was in some alternate dimension that the cat could not perceive.

(5,492 posts)And to quote the stray cat that wandered in one day: Feed me ya bastard! Make it the right stuff, and I may hang about!
3 years later, still the same complaint - Not this cheap stuff again! Where is the tuna? Where is the chicken?
Rats and mice though, really trigger the hunter in him, so all good.
