I think it 's clunky and awkward. Influential or effective sound much more refined.

Nouned verbs irritate me, too, but not as much as verbed nouns.

The current number one on my shit list: gift.

For my eighth grade will, I gifted Tony Rodino my used guitar strings.*

. . . . "gifted"

Impact as a verb is number two.

* I'll have to dig out my '77 K-8 yearbook to show you the eighth grade wills: I really did will my used guitar strings to Tony Rodino. God only knows what nefarious use he put them to.

According to Merriam-Webster, the usage goes back at least 400 years. But saw a resurgence in the mid-90s, which may fit the timeline for the OP's other words.

Headline writers/editors are the culprits for a lot of this misuse.
