8 - From the 2 inner boxes

Completely forgot about the 9 square boxes till I looked a 2nd time.

8. I didn't count the boxes with the inner boxes because they

became L-shapes. That was my first instinct but maybe instead of subtracting the inner box, I should have added it? That would give me 40 as well!
