I can't believe I just got tickets for The Who

I mean I've already saw their retirement tour back in 1989. How many more times can a band retire?

But they are doing Quadrophenia from start to finish. Guess they figured that been working well with Roger Waters (he tours by doing complete albums).

But I was shocked - the prices were actually kinda sane for a major band like the Who - $36-$125. I mean geez Madonna tickets were $300 unless you settled for a side view and those were $95 (what we got).

Which is why Led Zeppelin will always be the better band! To them John Bonham was irreplaceable, even with his own kid.

If I had to take one to heaven with me to play forever, it would be Led Zeppelin.

In which case the Who would blow those plagiarists right the hell off the stage.

Come into a Who thread and start talking shit about Led Zep.

back in the day (my first apartment was three blocks from there), who is still trying to pretend that their band still rocks whould be playing "Hey, you, get off of my Barcolounger". I have no desire to see a bunch of dried up drug addicts re-live their youth at $300.00 a pop and I have no intention of paying the folks that I used to see for free at Speedway meadows a months rent to see them drag their sorry asses across the stage once again..

Their time is up. Time to move on.

...Pino Palladino (if he's still the bass player) didn't. After Keith Moon died, Townshend deliberately wanted Kenney Jones as his replacement because "he didn't sound like Keith Moon." They also shared childhood stomping grounds, but the two albums Jones made with the band are easily the band's worst (only ONE track from each makes it onto compilations / live albums, "You Better You Bet" and "Eminence Front"...everything else was a waste of time).

So the choice of Zak Starkey seemed to be "You know what? We DO need a Moon-style power drummer on that kit."

And it was a wise choice.

So they didn't try to "replace" The Ox either, and there was some wisdom in that, but Palladino put himself on the map as a session player with his somewhat trademarked rubbery-jazzy sound, and when placed in the context of The Who, adds up to "there's something missing here."

It's like Robert Trujillo joining Metallica. When Jason Newstead left, what did they do? They replaced him with a fucking BEHEMOTH, a guy who just PLANTS himself on the stage and whips his hair around and brings down the thunder.

If The Who are performing Quadrophenia live, Entwistle's absence will most be felt on "The Real Me," easily his shining hour with teh band. Hope Palladino has some tricks up his sleeve when it's time to play THAT one.

As well as the Stones the same year. In both cases, it was an eye opener to me about two underwhelming, aging groups. Both of those shows are probably tied for the worst shows I had ever seen. I hope they've found some magic elixir of youth since then.

But that was when the found the giant crack in the foundation and condemned the building. At least I saw the last concert at JFK which was the Grateful Dead (my only Dead show).

I thought the Stones were ok although only really liked their older stuff. That was one of those concerts where afterwards it was like 'Can check that off my viewing list'

Sam the Sham and the Pharoes was the lead in group. Jefferson Airplane was the filler. Nobody had heard of Jefferson Airplane.
Tickets where $8.00 for 8th row seats. It was a long time ago.

$36 is fairly reasonable, but $125, let alone $300? Sheesh!

I saw The Who in 1982. It was a blast! Have fun. I'm sure it will be great to see Pete and Rog, even if the rest of the band is now gone.
