(4,913 posts)Motivated by seeing folks who started with cute dolphin tattoos that turned into whales. Most tats don't age particularly well, IMO.

(102,491 posts)Different strokes for different folks and all that, but I've NEVER liked them (though the small inconspicuous ones would be what I'd get if I ever wanted one).

(16,889 posts)Each one has different meaning and all are great quality. The majority of tattoos that don't "age well" weren't well done tattoos to begin with. I like my tats and I love to talk about them when folks ask.

(8,361 posts)Got my first tattoo as a sophomore in high school. The second as a senior. The tattoo parlor in RI really did not care how old you were back in the 80s. They would ask if you were 18 and if the answer was yes, it was game ( or ink) on

(4,674 posts)I got my first tattoo after age 50, a little butterfly on my--uh--chest that flies lower and lower every year.
At 65 I got a vine around my ankle with three little pink wild roses. In three years at 80 I'm getting three little birds added. Yes, for one of my favorite songs.

(37,008 posts)Wanted a tattoo of MOM.
10 bucks a letter but I only had 20 bucks. Tattoo shop would not come down on price.
Had an M tattooed on each cheek of my butt. When I bend over it spells MOM.
When I lay on my back and lift my legs it spells WOW.
Me mudder wuz so proud!

(20,601 posts)Some of the dyes have metals in them so having an MRI can cause a pulling sensation and burning feeling. Rare, but an ink with more metal can affect the diagnostic usefulness of an MRI. I doubt most people look into the contents of the inks used.

(19,982 posts)throat tattooed last weekend. He's a lovely guy but judgement doesn't appear to figure largely in his life. He has 3 kids with 2 different women, and is back dating again, while back living with his mother. I think it looks terrible and can imagine how mushy it'll look in 20 years.
I look at tattoos as a form of self mutilation.

(54,476 posts)And turning 50 was almost 20 years ago. Too late, so I'm not going to bother to make up for lost time.
In my next incarnation, maybe. Or, maybe not, either. On my list of priorities, it's still hovering down there somewhere between number 547 and 633.

(21,731 posts)Was never interested in having one. I have seen a few that I thought looked nice on people, but have also seen some that looked poorly done and gross.
I think tats are more of a thing among younger people today than they ever were in my younger days. I just don't understand the appeal of injecting the skin with dyes to create a permanent image or message on your body.
Also never got more than one set of piercings for my ears. None beyond the lobes. Would never consider one elsewhere, e. g. tongue, lip, nose, etc.

(28,130 posts)Right?
I've such a pale complexion with disappearing eyelashes to match; so, besides using makeup & mascara, I needed eyeliner in order to appear normal. Applying it was too time consuming getting ready for work every day, so I thought that eyeliner tattoo would be a great idea & it was! Never regretted it. That was 20yrs ago & I need a touch-up now.
