The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust saw John Mayall in concert. Quite a show for someone who is nearly 80!
I didn't even know the guy was still alive. At age almost 79, he looked really fit, and still blows a mean harmonica. He had a dynamite band with him, basically just guitar, bass and drums, but top players on all three. He was never my favorite acts of the sixties, but he always had a talent for surrounding himself with top-flight musicians, and this tour was no different. I don't understand HOW he got booked into a tiny venue here in outer Cape Cod, where I am on vacation (he is scheduled to play in northern California tonight), but whoever pulled that one off, I'm grateful!! What a show!

I guess since it's been his signature piece since The Turning Point, he just keeps re-inventing it,
since he knows people will always want to hear it. They did Hideaway from the Bluesbreakers with
Eric Clapton album as an encore, and the guitarist (form Texas!) acquitted himself admirably.

(54,488 posts)Of course, I barely know who Jennifer Anniston is, much less who she is involved with.
Wasn't she with Brad Pitt at some point? I'm too lazy to look it up.

(30,885 posts)I lost interest at the end of the "guitar hero" era (Clapton / Green / Taylor), but man oh man, did he come ROARING back with Coco Montoya and Walter Trout. When they left, Buddy Whittington carried on admirably.
He truly is "The Godfather of British Blues."

(19,385 posts)Of course the master was Frank Zappa, but Mayall and Lynott did well.
Man, he's gonna be at Yoshi's in Oakland tonight! Bummer, I have a prior commitment. Glad you got to see him though!
