5. Some dogs seem to tolerate it quite well...

While our son was in Iraq and our daughter-in-law was staying with her folks, we kept their big beautiful German Shepherd Brandi. Because Brandi and Nancy (our dog) didn't always see eye-to-eye and we worked during the day, Brandi got the house and Nancy got the yard & dog house.

I'd made a double-decker chocolate cake w/chocolate icing and left it on the counter - was under a cake cover and narry a slice had been taken.

Came home and found an empty plate on the living room floor - no sign of the cover (found it under the bed some days later). Brandi was sprawled out on the bed, snoring. No throwup, no ill effects, vet looked her over said she was fine. Go figure...

Never left any baked goods out again.

Brandi and Nancy have both gone to doggie heaven, but not because of chocolate - old age got 'em.
