John Lennon left Hamburg to return to Liverpool soon after.

A friend of their's, Lucien Carr, had been stalked for years by a guy named David Kammerer, and when it turned aggressive, Carr stabbed the guy with a knife, claiming self-defense.
Carr dumped the body in the Hudson River, and Kerouac helped his friend out by disposing of the murder weapon and Kammerer's eyeglasses.
Kerouac's father refused to pay his son's bail.

temporarily with a friend who lived in neighboring Berkeley, so he could use his friend's address to attend Berkeley High School, which had Music Harmony and Music Theory classes, which were not available at the high school Lesh was attending.

To help their son out, Phil's parents sold their Kensington, CA home, which they'd lived in for 15 years, and bought a smaller house in Berkeley, so that Lesh could finish high school at Berkeley High.
