Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAfter twenty years of being "Grandma" and "Grandpa" to eight grandchildren,
our ninth grandchild (and fourth granddaughter) has given us grandparent nicknames.
I'm "Baba" and Mrs. Aristus is "Mina".
I like it...

It was the one thing that tied all the generations together.

(16,373 posts)It's great when the names come naturally like that. My oldest son couldn't pronounce Grandpa so he became "Bee-pah" and Bee-pah he remains to this day even though both boys are adults now.

My father's father was a simple "Papa".

(13,865 posts)I'm G-Daddy, cause he didn't want to go all out with Granddaddy (and that will be my name if I ever embark on a career as a rapper).
My two twin granddaughters contorted it a bit more, so I am GG-DaDa.
But they can call me anything and it is fine.

(2,560 posts)I live in The Netherlands and grandads generally go by the name "opa". But I'm not Dutch so that title didn't feel appropriate to me. So, I thought about English language equivalents such as Granddad and Grampa. One of my grandkids had bought me a mug with the cartoon character Mr Grumpy on it. I thought "Mr Grumpy" and "Grampa" were pretty close so I chose for the the name "Grumpy".
Most of my grandkids call me that. My oldest grandchild could say the name but the next youngest (different mother) couldn't quite say it and pronounced it "Blummy". So the kids in that family call me Blummy.
I'm happy with that.
