Some Happy News for Today

We lost our sweet dog Riley last fall and we were heart broken. He was a beautiful and sweet German Shepherd Dog (about 90 lbs.) and we loved him dearly. He joined our family as an 8 week old puppy and was 10 when he crossed over.

Today we found an 8 month old puppy GSD mix little girl at the local shelter and she chose us! We are over the moon! We have decided to name her Maizy and even though we can't bring her home until after she has been spayed in early August, we will be visiting her every day.

In these dark and difficult days, sometimes we need to celebrate something lovely.

This last Mercury Retrograde has been one tough noogie for me. I lost my labrador companion of 12 years, he was 13, estimated to be about a year old at my adoption. He was 110 pounds of pure joy and security for his daddy. He also did service dog training, and helped me through several surgeries to correct issues after getting mugged on my bicycle. Mercury pre-shadow, he finally began to succumb badly to the cancer, I'd put him through two rough surgeries to excise tumors, he was such a trooper.
For practical purposes, I can't get another pup till after I complete a relocation, and ensure I get in a pet-friendly place. Depends on where I pick up work next. There's a little lake beach here I enjoy a swim on hot days like this. The doggies playing around there always come up to love on me, as though they know somehow I miss my Caleb so. The beach isn't quite the same without him, but it helps when other's furry beasts romp right up to maul me with a barrage of kisses.
I get reminded about the fur I'll have to contend with every time I say this, but...
Next time, I would love to adopt a Husky if I can find one.

You are braver than I taking on a puppy, but it will be worth it I know. Our rescue--also named Maizy!!--was 5 when we got her. And she is a handful even now at 7. (A Schnauzer mix, and our two before that were mellow Vizslas, so it's been a big change.)

Those puppy faces are so enticing but at my grandma age I couldn't handle that anymore.

Best wishes to your growing family, lol. Do post photos when you get her home.

You are all lucky to be a family.

I lost my baby on June 2, and it is agonizing I miss her SO much...17 years and it was always the two of us so the emptiness in my apt and heart is enormous. I wish I could get a different dog soon but I can't.

We love our GSDs. We have had four of them in our family. Maizy will be #5. She's not full shepherd - not sure what the mix is. We will bring her home in about 3 weeks after she has been spayed. She will keep me busy, for sure!

We are in Oregon, so the transfer would be challenging. Plus, GSDs and dogs in general are not staying unadopted for very long. A friend of mine runs a GSD rescue in Northern California and they have zero dogs. This is very good news for animals that need homes.

I got my Tasha a GSD at a farmer's market in Pennsylvania. She was in a chicken coup with her male sibling. I got her after the loss of my Borzoi. Tasha was my companion for 16 1/2 years. So glad you got a new pup! You'll never forget Riley but enjoy the new little guy.

Only she was a doberman. Huge. Scary looking. A total cupcake!

I sang in a quartet with Tasha's mom and we would rehearse at their house. Tasha wasn't supposed to come in the living room, but she was so smart and she could see that we were facing away from the door. She would sneak in the room and sit right next to my leg and ultimately, lean on me and look up with those pretty amber eyes. Tasha was a good girl - and she usually got away with it!

It's never the dog's fault! Either we didn't put it out of reach, we didn't get puppy out in time...not puppy's fault! I know this is one lucky girl and it's going to be happily ever after for everyone!❤
