- a boatload of mayonnaise on both sides of the bread
- sautéed Vidalia onion
- ketchup on both sides of the bread
Truth be told, this is an ideal burger for me. Its a sloppy, greasy, unhealthy mess, but I am of the opinion that a hamburger isnt supposed to be healthy. Its supposed to be delicious.

(12,132 posts)the 5 cheese burger (or something like that) - not only is the "bun" grilled cheese sandwiches, the bread for the grilled cheese is griddled with cheese on the outside too so it makes a crispy cheese crust just for fun. I love 'em. I also use up a lot of their napkins. I figure the mark of a great grilled cheese burger is that you need a shower afterwards.

I was a wreck after eating that thing. It was incredible, but it was like eating a whole turkey. I was worthless the rest of the afternoon.

(12,132 posts)We'll let them make us a couple and then nap the rest of the day. If we make it out to the car. They might let us take a quick siesta on the covered patio. (They have a pretty awesome beer on tap list too - so many they have to put it up on a video screen to keep up to the minute tabs on what's in what's out and what's new)
This place is a chain (not sure how regional or national it is - Beef O'Brady's (which is a goofy, almost parody, of a name for a restaurant.) There are several in Florida and I have eaten at many of them however each one is an individual franchise and the guy that owns the one close to my house also happens to own one of the best steak houses in Central Florida and it's right next door. NONE of the other Beefs compares to this one. The care that the owner takes with his expensive steak house is evidenced in the the care he takes with this family pub style place.
We took our daughter to the steak house yesterday for her birthday and it was amazing - I was just as useless after that as I am after eating next door. I blame the waiter - as we were finishing up he told there was an off-menu bread pudding with caramel drizzle and I had to stay and eat it. will probably skip lunch today....maybe dinner too..

(791 posts)A nice soft roll or bun.
Slice in half and butter the inside.
Grill butter side down over a high heat for a light char.
Spread some liberally with equal parts ketchup and maille dijonnaise.
Place one or two rashers of cooked, real british bacon.
Place patty of your choice on top of that.
Slice of cheese can be melted on top of patty when cooking or not. Recommended to meelt first when using brie.
Fry one egg sunny side up place on top of cheese and patty.
Close burger, squish and serve with a roll of paper towel.

(7,565 posts)The hamburger was placed on the grill along with Kings Hawaiian hamburger bun toasted on the grill. Once the burger was almost done, I placed several slices of cheddar cheese to melt on top. Once the cheese melted, a sliced tomato, pickles and diced sweet onions were added in between the toasted bun.
Today: The hamburger is placed on the grill and seasoned with Lawry's seasoned salt while grilling. Sometimes, I still place sliced cheddar cheese on my burger and sometimes I just add pickles and diced sweet onions, all without a bun. The gluten-free buns are usually 1.) overpriced or 2.) generally taste awful, so I just go without the bun. For a side filler, I usually roast diced potatoes with some diced red and green peppers, garlic salt, Lawry's seasoned salt and olive oil in a shallow foil pan on the grill. If I'm not roasting potatoes on the grill, it's usually grilled corn on the cob.

(12,132 posts)I prefer the grill outside but weather wasn't cooperating so I turned on the electric griddle inside. I start with 80/20 burger and mix in salt and pepper, minced garlic and Worcestershire sauce. I make over-sized patties because they shrink down quite a bit but still enough to over hang out of the Martin's Potato Bread sandwich rolls that I have slathered with garlic butter (made with real butter and some of that minced garlic above) and toasted on the side of the griddle that doesn't have burgers (it's a pretty big griddle).
I want to get one of those domes to put over the burgers to facilitate cheese melting but for now I just put it on early enough that it's melted by the time the burgers are done.
At home I go pretty simple with just ketchup and maybe lettuce if we have any but I really don't need it. Sometimes I'll add mayo.
But out and about I do like to experience different weird crap on my burgers. My favorite so far hasn't been matched in almost 30 years - the Fertility Burger at Jungle Jim's. Long gone out of business but that thing had everything including cream cheese and jalapenos and hot sauce and I don't even remember what all else. So good I still remember it after having had it only once almost 30 years ago. I think it reversed my vasectomy.
ORRR if my daughter is feeling like we should fancy shit up, I'll make Hamburgers Wellington. All the above burger prep but I fry them partway in a skillet so I can re-use some of the grease and the tasty bits in a mushroom sauce (canned, chopped mushrooms, whatever stock I have on hand, whatever red wine I have on hand, salt and pepper and a corn starch slurry to thicken it right before assembling the Wellingtons. Assembly is to flatten out a Pillsbury flaky biscuit for the bottom (I use Pam on the cookie sheet but I think they may say not to grease the pan), add muenster cheese, a scoop of the mushroom sauce, burger patty that was partially cooked, more sauce and another flattened biscuit on top, pinch the sides and a cut a couple vent holes up top. bake according to the biscuit can instructions and eat like KINGS. Of a small, insignificant nation. My daughter will almost always make asparagus casserole to go with it. (The same as the dreaded green bean casserole but with canned asparagus and cheddar cheese on top)
I wouldn't know what to do with real ingredients. We have fun with our canned stuff lol.
My wife doesn't like all the fancy stuff. so I make sure I cook a couple patties for her and leave them out of the Wellington shenanigans. She's such a peasant.
We also will most likely have Bush's vegetarian baked beans with any of the above. We're obviously not vegetarians, we just think they taste best.

My favorite burger is the green chili goat cheese, second is cheddar bacon. Favorite sides are made in house potato chips or fried okra. Or you can skip the burger and order Frog Fries which is a pile of french fries with chili, cheese, jalapenos, and onions (nachos more or less)
Kincaid's is a delicious juicy burger with traditional topping options.

(43,155 posts)Buns and toppings can vary--perhaps with ketchup, perhaps with a cream based sauce. Lettuce and cheese are good but not mandatory. Tomatoes are a plus. Maybe some red onion but not to the point of overpowering. Take it or leave it with pickles. Relish can be fun.
Bun shouldn't be too thick so as to take away from the burger itself.
In the end, though, it's all about the patty.

(95,243 posts)Near my first real apartment, long gone now.
They did a burger with blue cheese inside that was a revelation to me.
I do a fair job of recreating the memory by making two patties, topping one with a sprinkle of blue cheese, then putting the other patty over that, and making them one big burger. Worcestershire, salt, pepper, garlic powder. Meat should have some fat in it, and the thing should come out rare. A good idea is to turn it only once, and never press down with the spatula while it's cooking. Helps keep it juicy. Heat should be on the low side. Like bacon, grilled or raw onion, sliced mushrooms for toppings, and of course great dollops of ketchup. If served with tomato and lettuce, these are politely removed. A pickle is fine on the side, but does not belong on a burger....

lettuce, tomato thin sliced, onions
black pepper
monterey jack
ketchup
yellow mustard
ranch dressing
pickles
2 slices bacon
kaiser roll cut into 3 layers, topped with poppy seeds or sesame seeds
last time i made one of these it was about 6" tall
Each layer has a burger
The trick is to load the flavors in different layers of the assembly, ranch in lower level with tomato and pepper and bacon
upper layer with tomato, monterey jack, mustard, ketchup, pickles.

between bites we converse about the green chiles like wine afficianados - does it have bite, good green chile flavor, meaty, too hot, no heat etc.
