The Plot Against America - on HBO

Based on Philip Roth's book by the same name when an isolationist, anti-Semitic Charles Lindbergh wins the presidency from Franklin Delano Roosevelt, keeps the U.S. out of World War II, and instigates a European experience for American Jews—intolerance, relocation, appeasement of Hitler and, ultimately, pogroms.

I am sure there are many reviews but what caught my eye was the first paragraph from the WSJ (hey, only a review, no politics)

Among last year’s nominees for the short-documentary Oscar was Marshall Curry’s “A Night at the Garden,” about a German-American Bund rally—replete with swastikas and sieg heils—that took place in a packed-to-the-rafters Madison Square Garden in 1939. Mr. Curry made a taut, dramatic seven-minute film out of footage he’d discovered. But the most remarkable thing for many was discovering that the event had taken place at all.

1. Been watching (first two episodes)

It's amazingly well done—great acting and brilliantly shot. And it's eerily relevant to our own times, on both the human and political levels. I recommend it to everyone who can get it, even if it means "borrowing" someone's HBO Go password, as we did.
