Canoer's Memorial in Oscoda, Michigan
Number two is in the Huron-Manistee National Forest at Corsair cross country/hiking trails.

If you have Google Earth...copy those locations and plug into Google Earth and take a virtual vacation.
Number three is in our township park part of the Iron Belle Trail, a hiking, biking, horseback trail.

(51,279 posts)He was so funny tonight ...
I had to change what I normally feed him ... because I can no longer go to the feed store 30 miles away ... well ... because everything changed ...
So ... 3 weeks ago, I had a different place bring me enough feed for (Im hoping) 3 months ... and they have a different formulation.....
So ... I finally ran out of the normal feed this morning and gave the horses their new feed this evening ...
They hate it ... I mean ... they really hate it
He put his nose in the bucket ... turned and looked at me and said ... WTF is in my bucket?!
Started stomping his foot .. shook his head ... looked at me ...
So ... I gave him a sugar cube (which he really likes) and he took a bit of food and tried to chew it ... and shook his head and spit it out...
I got him to eat about half of his dinner by feeding him out of my hand .... he would not take a bite of it unless I was feeding it to him ...
I tried to explain that life had changed .... he said he wants his old feed back ...
Its gonna take some time ....
But ... I hope ... he will eventually be okay with it ...
I will be glad when we can go and get what he likes again ... but he will have food and he is loved

(86,318 posts)My landlady has two mares and apparently the new hay she got this fall was not to their liking. She found that if she puts some of the old hay that they like with the new hay they will eat it. Nothing wrong with the hay, they're just picky.

(51,279 posts)It was as though my personal music had been silenced ...
I finally manifested them back into my world in 2016 ...
The first is Freckles ... a now 22 year old Arab/quarter cross ... she was basically being starved to death ... she is now a diva mare ... ruling the Shetland (Walter, who was given to me) now 7 years old and always ready to play a game ... and then Turk (of the photo) ... now 9 years old ... a haflinger ... my Romeo ... my heart ... my bestest boyfriend
My best times are with them ... when all the world falls away and it is just me and them ...

(21,596 posts)Until then, Ill make the most of any opportunity to ride, groom, muck stalls, load hay & feed, or just hang out with horses any time I can. 🐎 🐴
My special horse was an Oldenburg filly out of a Thoroughbred mare. My fillys sire was Coromino, an Oldenburg stallion.
I couldnt afford to keep her after I was laid off in 2009. I nursed her through an eye infection that involved a subpalpedral lavage device (sp?) I saved her eye, but spent the last of my savings. I slept in the barn for 3 months in a stall next to her. I gave 6 medicines 6x/day for over 3 months. I miss her every day. She was beautiful!

(51,279 posts)Your filly was so lucky to have you to care for her ...
I have a friend who says ... horses spend 11 months trying to be born and the rest of their lives trying to kill themselves ...
If you are ever near me, you are welcome to come and love mine with me ...
I do so hope this terrible time passes and we will survive it ...
My haflinger had a tendon injury two years ago ... I am happy to see him ... just lately ... carrying his weight evenly ... I keep telling him that someday we will see it all in the rear view mirror

(7,547 posts)This is Moppit. She's been developing a bad habit of sitting in front of my monitor. It doesn't matter if my hand was already on my mouse before she jumps up on her new space. She gets mad, growls and tries to bite me because this is now her new territory. This also explains why I can't always answer right away here on DU. She's not always grumpy though, she reminds me when it's time to go to bed and jumps into bed with me.
This is Bermuda. He's a special needs cat with several health issues. He's affectionate and has separation anxiety from his humans. Even though he's been in our home for 8 years and is fed regularly, he still acts like he lives in the streets and dumpster dives for food. It got so bad that I ended up putting a brick in the kitchen trash can so that he couldn't knock it over on the daily. Now, he has learned to stand on his back legs to rummage through the trash can. We have a saying in our home, "You can take the cat out of the street, but you can't take the street out of the cat."

Niagara
(7,547 posts)It's only been going on for a few months. All I know is that she gets extremely angry if I do not move my hand once she decides she wants to sit there, never mind that I was there first lol. I have no idea what she is telling me when she does this. If you have any idea, please let me know.
I have a spare computer chair that she likes to stand on the legs of that chair. She hides under this chair and runs up to me, grabs my leg and runs off. This indicates that she wants to play. Her favorite toys are the homemade foil balls that I roll from aluminum foil. She goes crazy chasing them and hitting them back to me.
From the living room, there is an oddly shaped hallway that leads to several other rooms. Moppit will sit in the hallway with her back to me. This indicates that she's ready to go to bed and that it's time for me to go to bed also.

(10,037 posts)I like to talk about Moe with anyone who'll listen. He was born without eyes and is sweetest, most amazing creature on this plane or any other. I often consider looking into letting him help others as an emotional support animal. I just have to have all that sweetness for myself though. IRL, he balances my acerbic nature.
Thanks to everyone for the kudos.
