I've been kicking around the idea of starting up a Trump-era support group.

Not a group devoted to activism. Activism is great, but this would be something else, It would be more about dealing with loss. There has been a lot of loss in the Trump years. Loss of pride in our country. Loss of optimism about the future. Loss of friends and family that inexplicably became Trumpites.

In my mind's eye, this would be a group of people actually meeting in real life. I suppose there's a danger of being set upon by Trumpite trolls, but I'm guessing that wouldn't happen.

Anyone out there ever encounter such a thing?

But my idea was to have it online here. Course, this whole site is about commiserating in some part, anyway.

We were still grieving the loss of a Gore Presidency, and we needed a place to gather so we wouldn't feel so alone. We needed comfort for the dark days ahead. Of course, nine months before the September 11th attacks, we had no idea how bad it was going to get.

I think as bad as things were on Inauguration Day, 2017, we still had no idea how bad the Trump Presidency was going to be...

I don't think I was here then. Not till 2004 with the Kerry/Edwards ticket loss. I was then - as now - suspicious of the electoral process..

I didn't realize - you go back all the way! 👍

I started lurking here in March of that year. The very first thing I read here was about DU's founding on Inauguration Day. The first pic I saw posted here was of someone, probably Skinner, holding up a 'democraticunderground.com' sign as GWB's motorcade passed by. So I feel like I was here from the beginning. I registered and started posting four days after the 9/11 attacks.

Eighteen years is a long time...

Has been my support group since April 2017. I lurked for many months after the stolen election.

I appreciate 99.9% of the people I interact with here. It is a big tent!
