I was going to write an outstanding piece about apathy in the non-voting public.

And then I thought, why bother?

And that "why bother" attitude is a prime reason that Trump is currently infesting the White House. Because approximately 43& of registered voters did not bother to vote in 2016.

And I was going to point out that the "why bother" attitude could result in permanent one party rule, but then I wondered would most people really care?

Who do we blame?

Do we blame an economy where millions juggle part time McJobs?

Do we blame an economy where millions have no health insurance?

Do we blame an economy where millions get what they call news from FOX?

... since you posted in The Lounge.

However, I completely agree with you, guillameb. The apathy that income inequality has produced in the United States created an antipathy to our political system. The result is the tribalism illustrated by so-called Republicans.

These are people who really do not understand the forces around them and they can't be bothered to educate themselves. As evidence, just look around to see what people write and post on social media. They haven't a clue.

On the other hand, comedy is not pretty as Steve Martin famously illustrated. Perhaps there is something of a joke in your post.

Good evening to you, sir.

But we are the butt of that joke.

And I was serious about the apathy, and it being partially rotted in economic stress.

Many seem to be more focused on television, and sports, and celebrity news. And of course, the latest killing spree.

DU is a welcome exception.

since he created so many jobs. The waitress replied that she knew since she had 3 of them! I'm sure I saw that here on DU and I'm sorry I don't remember where. But yes, comedy isn't funny and that's not why we laugh.
