a birthday check from my Russian "step" mother and I have decided to splurge on a new feather - or down? - pillow. the choices are overwhelming and the info pretty confusing. any experts or experience?

had (good?) feather pillows all my life, but the last replacement I bought a few years ago absolutely sucks. I hate it and it makes me angry almost every night. it develops huge hard lumps in the corners and at random inside . I have never had a pillow do this before and have no idea what the problem is but I want to set it on fire and get a new one!!! also sharp feather shafts constantly poke out of it

I am a side sleeper for the most part but I also tend to use multiple pillows. currently a cheap fiber pillow on the bottom, the lumpy POS on top and then I "hug" the remnants of an old leaky (but not lumpy) feather pillow that has so many cases on it I think it is mostly just layers of fabric with a handful of feathers in the center. I keep adding a new case to try to keep the feathers inside and not all over the house. I know it should be tossed too.

3. not feathers, but i love my purple pillow.

i have been using contour pillows for a while. i got a purple mattress that i love.
so i figured i's try the pillow. it is odd. it isnt very thick, and it is heavy as hell.
but man, it just cradles the head. i never adjust or poke at it at night. i never think twice about it.

i bought one for a friend who is bedridden, and he says it rocked his world.
