Just found a guy shooting up on the clinic's doorstep.

I told him to take it somewhere else. I was pretty harsh with him, and I regret it. But I didn't know what else to do. People come to the clinic and sleep in underneath the overhead to get out of the rain a little until the clinic opens, and I'm okay with that. But not the shooting up. I don't want the cops coming around cracking heads because they think we're a shooting gallery.

It's going to be a long week, but at least I'm not on call anymore...

Not suggesting you let them stay. I wouldn't. Just that it does underscore a huge and tragic complication of our criminalized drug policies.

The clinic also offers showers and laundry service. It's possible he was just waiting for us to open so he could use the services. He moved off just now, and I gave him a cup of coffee before he left. Made me feel a little less guilty.

It wasn't this incident that made me sick; I was well on my way already.

I made a good-faith effort, though. Visited with a couple of patients, then headed home. We'll see what tomorrow brings...
