Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsChristmas music is an absolute insult to anything with ears. Wanna fight about it?
1. There's only a dozen songs, but they'll let anyone ( I mean anyone) record an album of them making the songs shitty in their own personal shitty way.
2. It's played non stop from the end of November for an entire month. If they didn't suck, they could be played other times of the year. I can listen to Pink Floyd anytime of the year... because they don't suck.
3.It's nearly as redundant and brainwashing as religious music. The phrase "jingle bells" occurs 964 times in the normal version of the song.
And another thing. I don't trust the musical opinions of people who like Christmas music. Never has anyone said, "after we listen to that bootleg Lou Reed where he nearly cries during Sweet Jane before he transfers into a slower version of Heroin, let's listen to this copy I found of Chipmunks Christmas or The Christmas Shoes."

Of course, I can listen to Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts soundtrack any time.

(4,545 posts)I still remember Stevie Wonder's hip-hopped up version of Silent Night. It didn't last long and no wonder, it was a travesty.
Personally, I much prefer the traditional Christmas carols, played by an orchestra and sung by a choir.

And my pet peeve is pop love songs that just "happen to take place at Christmas" being played on the radio like they'll get you in the Christmas spirit the same as Carol of the Bells or Ave Maria.

You have an extremely limited view of what music is, let alone Xmas music.
Xmas music by Bach and Handel an insult to the ears?

(987 posts)It was beautiful music - vocal and instrumental. Most of the selections were pieces you would never or seldom hear on commercial radio or on the 60-90 minute repeat loop in public places. Wish you could have heard us. We are really very good. I am now officially ready to celebrate Christmas.
If you want to hear good Christmas music on the radio, you might want to check out SOME of religious stations. Seriously. There is some good programming out there. Now to be honest, not all of the religious stations do a good job of this, but some do. Spin your radio dial a bit - you might be surprised. Of course Pandora, etc. are good sources.

(2,215 posts)It is almost as boring as tradition Christian hymns, which include only a few notes of the scale available to them.
But I also don't celebrate Christmas.
Hate the whole charade, music, rituals, decorations. Blech.

(23,946 posts)...Christmas songs. Im not a Christian, but I love classic Christmas carols, particularly a stirring instrumental rendition of Adeste Fidelis/ O Come All Ye Faithful, O Holy Night, The First Noel, or Joy To The World. Also, medleys of carols.
I have a Christmas CD by Placido Domingo that I could listen to year round. A mix of carols and songs - no hokey songs.
I do like Leroy Andersons Sleigh Ride. And Trans-Siberian Orchestras Christmas/Sarajevo - when the piece gets to the end where the violin is shrieking (in a good way), I feel as if I am one of the violin strings that is being bowed so enthusiastically. Carol of the Bells is fun to play on hand bells.
Christmas songs - not so much for the vast majority of them. Gotta love Bings White Christmas, especially the part where he whistles.

(82,849 posts)There are enough Christmas songs to fill about 4 to 6 hours. Two (as in, "not one, but . . ." ) radio stations in my area have gone full Christmas music for a month and a half and a month respectively. That means you'll hear the same song four to six times a day if you're insane enough to listen all day long.
That said, there are some perfectly good Christmas songs, and I really like "O Holy Night," especially when the vocalist is good. The assaultive "Carol of the Bells" can, however, go straight to Hell.
