Mostly because, that sentence has no verb and I can be pedantic at times. I realized today that offering condolences to someone is awkward not only because of the sad situation, but also because I can't figure out a non-awkward way of being grammatically correct when I do it.
Oh, and there's all that other nasty stuff about him, too.

(4,919 posts)"I give" being understood makes sense, and I hadn't thought about that before. I remember once saying, "I offer my condolences..." to someone and felt so embarrassed... I was sincere, but then got kinda wrapped up in how awkward I came across. This is just one of those little random thoughts that occur to me at inappropriate times, but you've actually given me info to feel more comfortable in the future. So, thank you again.

(38,545 posts)Then again there's always the old saying "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I try to apply that to people... but not necessarily their actions or ideology.
