do you intend to transport the bottle, or keep it on your shelf?

and keep the big container closed tight. Vitamins and other supplements seem to last longer that way. Some I've had seem to deteriorate in a few months if I open the big bottle each day, especially ones that don't have that slick coating.

I always save the cotton for other use and it should be sterile.........

the cotton represents the scam empty space in the half filled bottle they're selling.
