Voight calls some comment of Phil Hammersley (Robards) „liberal“ something-or-other, and uses the word as a pejorative. Reynolds was as much of a right wing tool as Voight is in real life. The role must have been one of the easier ones he has been asked to play.

Funny thing is that both characters were played by Rue McClanahan who was an enthusiastic Democrat.
